Much appreciated, but sadly, it’s so bad that there is a worldwide tracker that one guy put together:
That says that the last time SparkFun had any in stock was the Pi 4 B 8GB, on August 23, likely gobbled up by scalpers. And the one I want, the Pi Zero 2 W, was last seen there on August 12, again snatched up instantly like concert tickets.
That sucks. I met a guy at a small party* a little while ago and he and I and a few others got to chatting. We got around to talking about our lines of work. He clearly didn’t want to talk about it but others at the party, like the hosts, knew what he did so he was sort of forced. Yep, he worked for an event ticket buying place and knew his industry is universally despised and add nothing to society and only exist to dickishly game the system.
*It was actually one of the first times I’d attended a social outing during the pandemic. The hosts limited the number of guests to 10, lots of distancing, outdoors only and about half were masked the whole time. I think it was Fourth of July, 2021.
I can’t seem to find Chloraseptic sore throat spray anywhere. I’ve had it on backorder with Amazon for over a month now. None of the pharmacies I’ve been to have it. Sometimes they have a store brand, but never Chloraseptic.
A couple that I have noticed in recent weeks – Zatarain’s Spanish rice mix or black beans and rice mix. I like to keep a box or two of red or black beans and rice mix on hand for those “I don’t feel like cooking” nights, and the Spanish rice is a favorite side for taco night. There’s plenty of red beans and rice, and there is also yellow rice and cilantro rice (both of which I don’t remember seeing much before).
In fact, it’s hard to find any brand of Spanish rice mix. It’s like everyone quit making it. I guess I should just learn how to make my own.
In Germany right now there are no gas bottles to be had on the usual dealerships: you either bring your old bottle to refill (they call it refill, they actually exchange your empty bottle for a full one) or otherwise they refuse to sell you a full bottle. So now you can buy empty bottles from amazon: 56.32 Euro for an empty 5 kg bottle:
A strange fractional price, it seems to me. The 11 kg bottle is even more expensive, and some are sold filled (the green “gefüllt!” signs) in sets of four or six for about 130 €/unit.
I guess those are dynamic links that will not stay the same for long.
Still having Sqwincher Zero woes. Getting tricky to find a source that’ll be able to get it to me in less than a month. Thankfully, the weather here is cooling, so hopefully consumption will decrease.
Still having issues getting larger sizes of our store brand crunchy peanut butter. Smooth isn’t a problem - they always have that. This has been going on for about 2 years now.
Also, it appears turkey is a problem as well. I was going to order a smoked peppered turkey breast from New Braunfels for Thanksgiving, only to find out it was out of stock. Our local barbecue place makes good smoked turkey - but their Facebook page says they’re not doing them for takeout this year because they are having trouble even getting enough turkey for their in-house business. They say the problem is the avian flu, which killed millions of birds.
So I go to the store yesterday thinking I’ll get a frozen turkey breast and cook it up myself. That big freezer case in the meat section should start filling up with whole frozen turkeys and turkey breasts right about now. They had nothing. There was one large whole turkey in the frozen poultry section where there are usually a few all year round. That was it.
I am now on Plan D for Thanksgiving - turkey tenderloin marinated in buttermilk and rolled in a breadcrumb, cheese and pepper mix. At least they had those.
Are you near New Braunfels? Because I ordered a turkey online from Bill Miller (near Cibolo) yesterday to be picked up at 7:00 pm the day before Thanksgiving. Including cornbread dressing and gravy. It wasn’t cheap (but then I’m not paying). Check out the options:
Were you going to order from the New Braunfels Smokehouse? Their food is definitely good.
Bill Miller food is plain, down-home, no frills, and utterly consistent. Google tells me there are 78 restaurants in the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Austin markets. They cook the food at a central location and reheat at the restaurants. Best fried chicken anywhere. And fantastic coconut cream pie.
