So What Was This Movie I Saw?

Ages ago, when I was a kid, I saw an old movie about a plane crash. The film must have been done in the late 1950s or early 1960s as it was in black and white and centered on the efforts of the investigators trying to reconstruct what caused the crash. I have no idea who any of the actors were.

What I can remember of the film, the lead investigator of the crash was good friends with one of the pilots on the plane and they had to totally rebuild the plane in order to find out what went wrong. The one scene I can remember is where the lead investigator is standing in the doorway of the hanger, looking at the plane and a man says something like, “They never should have rebuilt her.” In the end, the investigator takes the plane (or one like it) out on a flight to re-enact what happened in the crash. It turns out that the plane started having mechanical problems and there was so much chaos in the cabin that the pilot of the plane got confused and made a mistake which led to the crash. Any ideas?

Sounds like either Twilight Zone or Outer Limits.

The originals.

I vaguely remember that plot line.

Maybe No Highway starring Jimmy Stewart as an aeronautical engineer. I saw it on TV in b/w long long ago.

Nope. Not even close. In the film I saw, the plane crashes in the first reel of the movie, and they spend the rest of the film trying to figure out what happened.

Was a cup of coffee involved in the crash? Serious.

I don’t remember, but I know it was a movie, and not an hour long TV show like Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits.

Any of these?

Fate Is the Hunter (1964), starring Glenn Ford as the investigator. It does open with the airplane crash.

Nope. All of those are recent movies in color. I would have watched this movie somewhere between 20 to 30 years ago.

That’s the one i was searching for, Wallon. The surviving stewardess does everything just as before and coffee is the culprit.

Don’t know about the OP, though…

Fate Is The Hunter IS black and white. At least, that’s what IMDB’s page says. Look all the way down at the bottom.

My “nope” was directed at NoClueBoy. I think you’ve found the movie Walloon.

All hail Walloon!

I had fun wallowing through all the movie and tv show show links I ran across.

A lot of stuff I want to see!
