This is kind of what I am thinking. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t such a long way away, but I have decided for sure that I will be turning down the job. I know I would end up hating it before long having to go such a long way just to work in sales.
Don’t take the job.
First of all, living in Manhattan and working in Flushing is sort of like having a condo in Hawaii and vacationing in Gary, Indiana. It is assbackwards.
Most people would kill to get an apartment like you have described, in Manhattan, for that price…why spoil the advantage and not at least look around in the City first to see what is there?
If it were your dream job, or if it paid huge bucks, that would be different.
Plus, to be quite honest, my guess is they will still be interested in you if you call them two or three months later - should you not find an equally good job in Manhattan.
Really - so far you seem to have the lucky stars all aligned quite nicely - wait until you get there and hit the pavement and see what you can find.
Oh, and should you ever decide to move back home - uh, let me know about a sublet. I have about 25 friends who will be glad to stop by to say howdy.
I’ll keep that in mind.
