So what's new in business casual lately?

What is the timeline on this?

You mentioned that you would be in the south and sixty degrees, so unless you’re going to middle or south Florida or the warmer parts of the southwest, sixty isn’t likely to happen within the next 2-3 weeks. Winter office wear for the UP would likely suffice for the stuff we’re getting here until mid-March.

I live in a small town. There are no restaurants in town - even the fancy steak house - where jeans are not appropriate. Same with any concerts (we do have concert series and a university with a music department, so there are occasional concerts I go to.)

None of my friends like to dress up either, so any parties I go to, including Christmas parties, are so formal that I can’t wear jeans.

I went through this same thing over Thanksgiving, when I went to Chicago, and needed a decent dress and dressy coat to wear out to nice restaurants. It wasn’t always like this; when I lived in a larger city, I had more clothes. But 7 years in this town has whittled everything down to jeans and t-shirts.

I’ll be in Georgia. The 60 degrees is based on talking to the folks I’ll be working with, and also looking at an extended forecast.

Still, I don’t even wear sweaters in the winter here, unless I’m going to be outside. I just get too hot. Long sleeve shirts are about as warm as I want to get, unless I’m going to be in areas that are kept very cool.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, most southern offices I’ve been to go overboard on the AC. I’ll pack a sweater or two.

I was able to find an inexpensive business wardrobe at Walmart last year - just a few separates that were fairly plain, and the rest from a 2nd hand shop. The Walmart I went to had the business clothes separate from the rest of the clothes, which helped a lot. The only other Walmart I had gone to had the same items, but jumbled in with everything else, which made it hard to figure out what was what.

Yeah, bring some sweater or something. I am in an office right now in Austin, it is a gorgeous day outside, yet I am wearing my peacoat inside because the building keeps the a/c on something like 14. WHYWHYWHY

Oh hell, for shoes just hit a Payless. It’s not as if they need to last long.

Don’t know if you’re into boots, but I have worn out more pairs of ankle-boots <pant-boots, whatever> than I can count, for work purposes. Get a cheap pair, or even a cute pair you might wear more than once, and tada.
