There’s a story similar to the casca root story -
It’s called the robe by Lloyd C Douglas & was made into a fairly bad film (when bible epics were popular…) - the roman that crucifies christ & won the robe go mad with guilt & goes back to israel seeking redemption.
Another wandering story I have heard (read in a book as a part of the main plot, so don’t know if it is an original story or an old folk tale) is:
When the Romans wanted to crucify Christ, they didn’t have enough nails & they went looking for someone to make them, but all the local blacksmiths refused to make them because they knew who they were for. The soldiers killed them & moved on, trailed by their souls who warned those ahead.
Finally they found a gipsy camp, who were new to the area & didn’t know what was happening, so agreed. When the souls caught up, he hadn’t finished all the nails & he stopped instntly, but the soldiers took the finished ones & left. He & his family and their descendants have been trailed by that nail ever since, still hot & glowing from the forge & this is why they never settle.
