So, who else reads in the bath?

I can’t remember how many years it’s been since I soaked in the bathtub. I do have a jacuzzi here in the house though if that counts, but I do not read in there. Why? It isn’t worth trying to keep the book dry and I am not in there long enough to try to find a way around that problem. Also, I don’t sit still for long in it, am moving around and stretching, trying to use the jets to speed recovery. It’s not healthy to spend too much time in the heated water, use a timer to make sure I don’t stay in there too long. Have been experimenting over time, have it now dialed down to only 100F so I can spend a whole 20 minutes in there per session. (102F or greater was too hot for me to endure for very long, did not feel I was getting benefit from it, rather than detriment.)

I used to all the time. Back when I was 11 or so, we lived in a house with a antique cast iron claw legged tub. I would fill that sucker up with water, and stay in it anywhere from an hour to 3 hours at a time, depending on if it were a school day and anyone was up. This was back when I was getting up at 3am each morning, so I had plenty of time.

After that we moved and things got tight financially, I couldn’t afford to keep refilling the tub to keep the water hot, so I toned down the length of time to an hour or so.

Now I can’t soak in the tub, since where I’m living at now has a tub so small that if I laid in it, there wouldn’t be room for water.

This.

What I love about a good soaking bath is the white noise the sound of the running water provides. It shuts out everything and quiets my head. As a kid I would sometimes come right from school and go into the tub. Or in the evening if home life was stressing me out.

Even now, just listening to the water run and my husband takes his shower in the morning relaxes me. But the tub is the best.

When I was little I’d buy MAD Magazines at garage sales for .10 each and read them in the bathtub. The pages ended up all curled and water-stained but I would read them over and over - I think that’s where I got my twisted sense of humour.

I tested out the new jacuzzi/bathtub I just got by taking a drunken bath while reading some Hemingway on my Nook. It was a bit scary. I ended up putting the Nook in a ziplock and reading through the bag.

Anyone have a more… elegant… solution for waterproofing an e-reader?

If my house had a bathtub long enough for me to fit in, I would read in the bath.

On the rare occasions we use the jacuzzi I do read, but I am too impatient for that. But I read in the toilet, as Og mandates.

Reading on the toilet is fun. Until people notice you’ve been in there for half an hour. :smack:

God, I miss that. When I was a teenager I used to soak and read till my parents were banging on the door threatening to come in there if I didn’t getoutgetoutgetOUTthereareotherpeopleinthishousedammit. All my books left over from that age have wavery curled-up pages where I dropped them in.

Nowadays I have a kid of my own and no time for anything, so I just take showers.

Every night I soak in the tub with a cup of tea and my Kindle (or on rare occasions, a real book) and read for 30-45 minutes. It’s part of my “bedtime ritual” and I don’t think I’d be able to fall asleep reliably if I skipped this step.

A good paperback(usually an Elmore Leonard) a cold night, a tub full of really hot water, and a cooler full of cold ones(aahh Dos Equis). Life is good

I don’t read in the bath, but browse the web sometimes while on the toilet.

Reading is a good excuse to bathe instead of shower. And a bath is a good excuse to read a book.

I read in the bath or in the hot tub in the back yard. You can put your e-device in a ziplock bag for cheap waterproofing. The touch screens even work through the plastic. If I don’t feel like reading I play games on my android phone.

I mostly take showers, but I do take a bath when my muscles are sore, or when I just can’t seem to get warm enough. I used to read in the tub until I dropped a friend’s book in the water and had to replace it. These days I pour a glass of vino, take my laptop to the bathroom set it on the floor and listen to tunes on Pandora, or from my music library.

No…but mostly because I don’t take baths.

Although I do love reading in a hot tub when I go to Vegas or a vacation.

I have been too afraid of water damage to use the iPhone or the Kindle in the tub. I usually just grab a magazine or a traditional book. There really is something to be said for a hot bath and a book.

Oh yes. We don’t really have enough hot water or a nice enough tub here but I tend to do it while house sitting.

Anyone else sleep in the tub?

I’ve fallen asleep a time or three when in the bath after a night shift. Usually to be woken by my sister-in-law when she returns from taking the children to school.
