In today’s LA Times: How about Danny Trejo?
Adam Schiff. It would drive trump even more nuts.
No, Schiff will be Attorney General and really get at Trump.
It’s the new Senate that certifies the EC votes, on the 6th.
almost certain to be a black woman or maybe Hispanic since there won’t be a black woman after Harris is VP
True - I should restate. I’m using the date that votes are transmitted to Congress, because that’s really the last chance for shenanigans. If something weird is going to happen, like some states sending multiple slates of electors, we’d know it by then. If states all behave normally, what happens on the 6th is just a formality.
Major California Donors To Urge Gov. Newsom To Pick Woman Of Color To Replace Harris
She’s not really mentioned in any articles I’ve read, but what about Hilda Solis? Former congresswoman, Secretary of Labor under Obama, daughter of immigrants and her dad was a union organizer, currently Los Angeles County supervisor. She’s 63, so not too old, not too old. Plus, she’s a progressive and environmentalist.
So Og-damn predictable… we Dems love to hurt ourselves don’t we?
Let California do what suits California.
Ooh, better yet, a Black Latina Lesbian disabled Veteran! Jackpot!
Better yet if she’s left-handed and is part Native American.
Since this year the 3rd January is on a Sunday, the actual swearing in will be the 4th.
Behaving normally. Yep. Og hear you.
Though it does raise the question of how quickly after the Harris resignation takes effect does the replacement itself take actual effect? Hours? A day? A workweek? Newsom obviously will want to have a name ready and vetted right away (so he’d be having meetings now) but can’t actually issue the appointment until the official vacancy happens, and that appointment has to in turn be formally submitted to the Senate and the appointee present themselves for the swearing in.
Also, whan that time comes, remember California uses an all-against-all “jungle primary” where the general election is in effect a runoff between the top two finishers regardless of party, resulting in that both current Senators faced Dem/Dem elections. So if the appointee is to be more than a placeholder they’d better have a good in-state political base to build upon in the first 18 months.
It appears Governor Newsom has chosen Alex Padilla to be the next US Senator from California.
He’s been seen as a, maybe the, front-runner almost from the word go. Not a big surprise - the push for a Latino Senator (he’s the first in CA) was pretty strong and they wanted someone with experience competing in statewide elections.
I’m not sure a man is up to the task, but he’ll have a couple years to prove out.
Padilla is the first male U.S. Senator from California in a quarter-century +
Just my guess what Pleonast is talking about.
I have a feeling that he’s gonna get no deference from ambitious California Democrats when he has to run in 2022. There’s only so many ways for a politician to advance his or her career, and California’s jungle primary means they just need to come in second to force their way onto the November ballot.
