Bible belt. But I’m voting for the change - I do want a lottery. Yes, some people have problems with gambling, but at the same time, right now people simply drive across to Georgia, Virginia or Kentucky to buy tickets.
If I’m not mistaken - and I’m sure I could be - employers have to give their employees time to vote. This is apocryphal information which I am pulling from some deep corner of my brain, so I have no ability to cite.
Absentee.
I’ve never missed an election in thirty years. I am impressed with the sense of responsibility Dopers have regarding this election. If everyone took the time to be informed and vote, it is certain that we would have a government which more closely reflects the wishes of the citizens.
Don’t forget to agitate those around you to vote too. If you can get someone to the polls who hadn’t intended to vote, you effectively get to vote twice, assuming they’re of like mind.
I get as excited about Election Day as I do for Super Sunday. I love watching all the returns come in, the analyses, the weeping losers. I guess that makes me some kind of geek or something.
We’ve got a pretty good gubernatorial race here in MI, and there’s a pretty interesting local judge’s race, as well.
I can’t wait!
(Does anybody else get this excited about Election Day?)
Happy
Since I turned old enough to vote, I have only missed two elections. I’ll be there this year.
Damn right. And we also have a very tight race for Governor here in Maryland. And if that Kennedy spawn wins, I’ll be bitching quite a lot.
Hell, yes, I’m voting.
I’ve never understood that mentality that makes people proud to say, “I’ve never voted!”
Or the people who don’t register just because they don’t want to get called for jury duty.
Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox now.
I love to vote.
Its fun!
I’ll be going around 4:45 as my son wants to go with me and watch.
Heck, 2 years ago, he stood with me on street corners when I was passing out literature (Green).
I will be voting tomorrow morning!
Green Party all the way!!!
so there you are!
I most certainly will NOT be voting. I asked ‘Why Do People Vote’ here before, and no one provided me with a valid reason for why I should vote.
My one vote isn’t going to matter, so why should I bother? It’s just a big waste of time.
I will vote. I always vote. One of the biggest reasons why government is screwed up these days is because too many people don’t vote, and the politicians know it.
I’d have to disagree with you here. If you were right, countries w/ compulsory voting laws would be trouble-free.
Because you can. We don’t live in Iraq, where the choice is Saddam or Saddam. Voting is a privilege not a lot of people get in this world, and even though you may think your vote doesn’t matter, the fact that you can vote in an election and not be shot for your choice should mean something.
I don’t know that I want to be able to vote on Saturdays. There are a lot of ill informed people that shouldn’t go near a ballot box, and I’d rather not make it easier for them to vote.
I’ll be voting I have ever since I was old enough to do so.
Women especially should be out voting - we were the last citizens in the country to get to vote and it wasn’t until 1920!
Soooo… everyone should vote simply “because they can” yet you don’t want to make it easier for people to do so because there are some folks you feel shouldn’t?
I will be voting tomorrow, but I live In Miami-Dade county, so who the hell knows what will happen with my vote?
I be votin,’ fo’ sho.
To be able to vote for and fund candidates is one of my treasured rights as a citizen and I enjoy doing it every other year. When I candidate I have helped wins it gives me a sparkly feeling inside.
Surreal–I find it hard to believe that the finest civic minds of the SDMB were unable to offer a single valid reason why citizens should vote.
Dig it.
Absolutely goddamn right I’m voting tomorrow. I vote at every opportunity: primaries, levies, you name it.
I will cheerfully be telling my in-the-pocket-of-the-developers city council to go fuck themselves in the ear hole by voting yes on something they have repeatedly, and stupidly, tried to kill (warning: PDF).
I view it as a civic duty. As a citizen it is my duty to do at the very least those sorts of duties such as voting and jury duty. To not do so would be letting down my other citizens. But then I’m an idealistic young man.
