FWIW the check out clerks at my local grocer are wearing gloves and are behind a ppartition of plexiglas. But I use shop and scan so I’m on my own and don’t interact with the clerks, and I’ve never seeN the store employees wiping down those touch screens for the self shoppers.

If you have never seen store employees wiping down touch screens at self checkout, you are either not paying attention or your particular store is not following the practice that most every other grocer is doing. We have wipers on self checkout constantly.
I have, they do that at the Aldis I go to.
I have plastic so I never pay in cash because I don’t want the change. I was wiping my money with a decontamination product, but then the little light went on. Now I take my wipes with me and wipe my card and the card reader. Which they will do if I forgot but still…“Got your back”, in a way. “Solidarity” is an over-used word, but something like that
Having re-read the offending posts that were included in the OP, I still believe that elucidator’s guilty of not being aware of how his posts were interpreted and it’s disappointing that he refuses to acknowledge that.
But that being said, this should probably be the end of the line for the outrage train. It’s not like he was posting that he wants grocery store workers to die. He did post something to that effect sarcastically believing it would be interpreted as such, which it wasn’t, but I think he cleared that up, or at least tried to.
elucidator’s always kinda, sorta trolled, gimmicked, or whatever you want to label it. He doesn’t have a track record of being an a-hole and we all know that. It’s a one-off thing. One post, one comment doesn’t define someone. Not in real life, and not here.

I admit that one could be forgiven for taking him literally. As someone else posted earlier, the internet is sometimes a bad medium for sarcasm or satire.

We have these things called "emoticons’ that show sarcasm, etc. A :rolleyes: would have clarified his intent. Since he didnt do that or use a color or put "(sarcasm) or anything else, we have to assume he was being sincere.

Yeah, he’s shown his asshole tendencies far longer than that. Travel back to 2006 and his multipage argument that “transgendered” doesn’t exist because it’s just cross-dressing and “they are clothes, take them off, put them on, whatever.” It’s hard to communicate how jerkish that thread is with just a few quotes.
He mostly contributes harmless comments that add nothing to the conversation but make some people chuckle, until someone calls him on something. And then he suddenly goes full asshole instead of a little introspection and apology.
