So You Don't Think Grocery Workers Deserve Protection....

It’s not like I could go to the movies or something, gotta do something for recreation…

That has happened at grocery stores - people spitting on the food, the employees, other customers, the police when they show up to arrest them.

No, you just touch screens that a bajillion other customers have touched.

How cute, you think you don’t interact with others at the store. You do. And you definitely interact with any virus they might be shedding. And they interact with whatever YOU are shedding, which is why the grocery employees, who interact with hundreds of people every day as part of their job, want protection.

Hey, fuckstick, if you wipe your card BEFORE you put it in the reader you’ll fuck up the electronics. We’ve had a good half dozen readers destroyed by people doing dumb shit like that but with you I expect stupidity. Because anyone too stupid to realize that masking up grocery store employee protects him as much as it protects the workers is flat out fucking stupid.

Fuck you, you don’t get to use that word after saying grocery workers shouldn’t get masks at all. You’re a stinking hypocrite who is trying to restore your obliterated reputation and I’m just not buying it you festering, gangrenous ballsack.

You’re not a nice person. You’re a lousy human being that is morally bankrupt because all redemption.

And, oh yeah - Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

Again, I absolutely do not believe he was being sarcastic. I think he claims that but “hey, hey just kidding” is the refuge of a lot of sadistic people - sadistic is the word you use for someone who gets enjoyment out of the suffering of others.

In other words, he’s a bully and a troll.

I’m sorry - someone who “kinda, sorta trolled, gimmicked, or whatever you want to label it” is, actually, being an asshole.

It was NOT just one post. It was several. A pattern of behavior does start to define someone. Yes, in real life and yes, here.

Yeah - I kind of “stiffen up” and get pissed when someone is arguing what little on-the-job protection I have should be stripped from me because I’m not worthy of having it. Him doubling-down IS being an asshole.

Stop defending scum. He’s not worth it.

^ I fully support this pitting of chela. He is also an asshole.

Let’s see… either he’s so clumsy and clueless we need to sit down and carefully parse and analysis and GUESS to figure what he really meant…

… or we can take him at face value and just conclude his a sadistic asshole, troll, and someone who revels in the suffering and pain of others.

:smack:

My store alone has over a dozen people in quarantine RIGHT NOW, several of them have tested positive (takes too damn long to get results). Two workers at Wal Mart in Joiliet have died from covid-19. Four workers at Kroger’s in the Detroit area have died from covid-19. Several from my company in the Detroit are have died from covid-19. At least 40 grocery store works nationwide have died from covid-19.

SOMEONE sure as heck is spreading this shit.

This not a hypothetical. This is not people being overly afraid, or hysterical. This is YOU in denial that this is a real problem. If you are working at a food bank interacting with hundreds of people a day without taking any precautions you are risking your health and possibly your very life. Maybe it makes you feel better to deny this, but the virus doesn’t give a fuck about your denial. All it sees in you is food to make more virus.

Since he finds it impossible to do something you maintain a good person would have done I think we might be able to draw the conclusion that maybe he actually is a bad person Or at least a morally repulsive person.

Indeed I was there (2016). I’d forgotten I was there

See, that’s the funny thing - my management IS providing PPE but this whole shit-show started when eludicator said the PPE provided to grocery workers should be stripped from them and given to someone else.

When come back please bring reading comprehension.

And, again, if you are interacting with hundreds of people a day you need more than rudimentary. And while I am totally in favor of you being a complete ignoramus and killing yourself with your own ignorance and stupidly, the problem here is that if you do get infected you’ll be spewing virus on other people until you get sick enough to have to take to a bed.

THAT is why everyone interacting with everyone else NEEDS PPE - to prevent those who aren’t showing symptoms from shedding virus, spreading it, and making other people sick. Until you show symptoms you have no idea if you have the virus or not, or whether you’re spreading it or not.

But do carry on with being a Typhoid Mary - she didn’t believe she was part of the problem either. But she did kill people.

Rudimentary as in homemade mask and food grade latex gloves is all I got. You do t think that’s enough? It’s good enough for me.

Meanwhile I think you need to lie down and take a nap, stop this martyrdom because it’s getting hysterical.

No, it’s not enough.

It’s really not enough.

You’re cutting you’re exposure MAYBE 30% with that. And that ONLY if your mask is properly fitted, properly put on, worn, and taken off, and the same for the gloves, and you’re not making things worse by mishandling all of that. WE were give at least a short course and some printed information on how to use the PPE we were given - were you? We have not one but two different disinfectants/sanitizers to use, and how and where and what to use them on. How about you?

No, you really don’t have enough. It maybe all you have. It may be better than nothing (or worse, if you don’t know how to use it properly). But no, it’s not really enough.

Fuck you.

You think I’ve never heard the word “hysterical” before? Next you’ll be telling me I’m not lady-like. That shit never worked on me before, it sure as hell won’t work now. If you want to be stupid that’s your call, but I’m going to protect myself as much as possible while I continue to do my job. Because someone has to do this, and it looks like this time around it’s my turn to help out with the emergency.

Another one who just wants to say I am grateful to Broomstick and the people like her who keep going into work every day so the rest of us can lead a semi-normal life.

I got the virus in spite of doing everything right, before it was recommended that everyone wear masks. So chances are I picked it up at one of my few trips to the drug and grocery store from someone who was asymptomactic. It was the sickest I have been in my life. If I could get that sick just from a quick trip to the store I can’t imagine how much scarier it is for someone who has to work a whole shift with germ bombs all around them. Shit yes they deserve protective equipment!

Jeez, tricoteuse, that sucks–glad you’re on this side of it though! Here’s hoping you have a raft of super efficient antibodies now.

Both of these and very much so.

Anybody working at a food bank now needs to be wearing PPE; as does everybody using them if they’re actually coming into the place. Homemade as necessary as there’s nothing else available. People who need food banks have enough troubles without getting this virus; and the workers certainly don’t need it.

You know what the food banks are actually doing around here? They’re having people sign up in advance by phone or online and show up in their cars with the trunks cleared out. Clients stay in the cars with the windows rolled up, hold up a sign in the window with their signup info, and pop the trunk control inside the car. Workers put a box in the trunk and close the trunk. Clients drive off. No contact.

And I live in a rural agricultural area that had no confirmed cases in the county till last week and has only a handful of them now. AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. That isn’t hysteria. That is, or ought to be, common sense.

Thank you for sharing and glad to know you’re apparently recovering.

trico! I’m so glad you’re OK!

Broomstick, thank you to you and all your fellow workers worldwide.

Holy shit, I’m glad to hear you’re all right now!

chela, go stick your head in a can of paint.

I hadn’t heard that expression before, and would like to thank you for the mental image.

I’m lucky enough to work at a small, rather boutique-ish type of grocery store (imagine, like, a really tiny wee little Whole Foods) rather than one of the big box hellholes. Maybe that’s why … but I’ve been genuinely touched by the volume of people recently who thank me, warmly and in a sincere way, for doing my job.

Worked a ton of retail and customer service jobs over the years, and never had THAT before! I appreciate it.

Hang in there, Broomie, and keep washin’ dem hands.

Yep, it’s taken me until now to come to this conclusion. I should have come to it when I found him to be unfairly snarky to conservatives in the same way that this board’s one-liner conservatives are to liberals. But I found him easy to ignore in many senses, and I thought that everyone else’s opinion of him was neutral or positive since his posts almost never sparked any actual dialog.

Thanks for the well wishes! This bug is the worst thing ever and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

It really is amazing how different it is in a small business. I work for a mom and pop business and when word got around that I had the virus the owners, my coworkers, and even some of our customers were calling or emailing to see if I needed anything and how I was.
