Actually, I did find this somewhat amusing because that is sort of how I’m feeling at the moment…
My daughter is a grocery cashier and I feel like ranting here every day myself on her behalf. The store won’t require customers to wear face protection (fortunately a majority do), and she doesn’t qualify for their health insurance until July. The state plan won’t cover her until June. I’m worried sick about her, and can’t even be closer to her than 6ft because she’s exposed and I’m at-risk and work (alone) at a medical lab office. I feel like standing outside the grocery store with a picket sign to shame people into wearing their goddamn masks.
So go ahead and rant away. It’s a good reminder that store staff are being paid lip service and not a lot more.

I was just in Wal-Mart today because they are *literally *the only place in town that seems to have either toilet paper or paper towels. If I hadn’t need those two items, I would not have given them any money because I despise Wal-Mart on principle.
Saw a white dude with a long beard walking around without a mask. Had his entire family with him. His son also wasn’t wearing a mask. I asked him why he wasn’t wearing one and he said, “I don’t want to.”

But, no. Those are emoji, which are different from the smileys. Emoji are part of your devices fonts. My script does not touch them.
Emoji sorta work on the SDMB, but they can be glitchy because vBulletin wasn’t designed with them in mind. Using preview, for example, can mess them up, turning them into a mess. And, of course, not everyone has all of the emoji, and they look different on different platforms.
As for the current topic: duh Broomstick gets to gripe here. She’s on the front lines, risking her life and health, so that the rest of us can get food. I had a longer post cued up to chastise kambukta (Man is that an easy name to turn into an insult, but i won’t), but y’all covered most of it, clearly the conversation has moved on.

Broomstick, you have my sympathy. Both my wife and I work in our different grocery stores every day. Like you I appreciate folks telling us we are heroes and thanking us. But I am no hero. I need to pay the bills.
We have about 60-75% masked customers. Most of the belligerent unhappy folks are among the unmasked. I feel like there has been a noticeable increase during the last couple of weeks in the “pandemic is over/wasn’t a big deal why are you out-of-stock why aren’t there more checkers” crowd. I am weary of it. I understand that the customers are too.
You did? I’m using Tampermonkey and it says it was last updated in October 2018. And yeah, I still prefer the old smilies to the “new” ones. They just don’t look right!

If I lived near you and didn’t have cats (and weren’t a complete ADD mess wrt organizing and cleaning and things like that), I’d offer you two rooms (I have 2 spare bedrooms, one mostly furnished and one empty).
