"So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star", by Jacob Slichter

I just finished reading this book, I heard about it on NPR, and checked it out of the library. It’s written by Jacob Slichter, drummer for Semisonic (their hit was “Closing Time”), and chronicles the rise and fall of the band. I hear a lot of review and interviews on NPR and rarely remember the book or author or to try to find the book if I do remember anything. Slichter is an educated man, and is rather introspective (obviously, I suppose), and writes quite well. I could hardly put it own. I found his descriptions of recording to be very interesting as years ago I wondered about that as a career and also details of the record business were illuminating, to say the least.

Pick it up, give it a whirl.

Hmmm, thanks for the tip. The title would typically be enough to put me off the book; it’s good to hear it might be worth a read.

Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 1. Thanks for the heads-up on this book; I liked the band, the subject matter is extremely interesting, and the guy can definitely write.
