Soap question

My husband has sensitive skin, and the dermatologist told him to use Ivory soap under his arms and in his groin area, and let warm water do the rest. I use shower gel on my body and Ivory on my face. My husband showers at work 5 days out of 7, so it’s not like the Ivory is always damp. However, I get in the shower, look at that Ivory, and think “Not on my face!” I try to bring my own bar of Ivory to the shower but I’m always forgetting so I end up washing my face with shampoo.

Anyhow, I don’t think I will change, but I just want opinions. Can soap get germy? Am I just too sensitive? When I was a kid at home with 3 sibs this kind of stuff never occurred to me and we all shared the same bar of soap. What’s your opinion?

I think you are being a bit too sensitive. Does he rub the bar of soap directly on his skin, or rub it on a washcloth or bath poufy thing first? I would assume the bar of soap, if he IS rubbing it directly on himself, gets rinsed off as he returns it to where ever. And surely you let water run over it to wet it when you get in the shower…I mean, a dry bar of soap on dry skin doesn’t work well! So you are rinsing off a layer of possibility that way. So are you more skeeved out because it touched his groin area (and we all know faces never touch groins…lol) or the fact that it is damp because someone else is using your soap?

I think Ivory soap is WAAAY too harsh for sensitive skin. Baby soap might be better for him. Just rinse the bar if you’re squeamish.

Yes, soap gets germy. Have him rub some on a washcloth (a clean one, every time), and use the washcloth on his skin. Bar soap really is better than liquid for sensitive skin because it’s less drying, but the derms I’ve worked for never recommend Ivory- they like Dove. Dove even has a sensitive skin formula. And yes, my derms say only wash your face, pits, groin, and feet- those are the only areas that really get dirty or stinky and the rest is overkill.
