Socialite Rebecca Grossman convicted two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter

There’s a difference in visual cues doing 40 in a 35 and doing 80 in a 35.
Why are you trying so hard to defend her?

I specifically said I wasn’t defending her. Her speeding record alone is enough to hang her and I have no sympathy.

And I thought I was clear about the SENSATION of speed. Again, have you ever found yourself speeding despite the visual cues? I’m pretty sure you have despite visual cues.

Maybe to justify the instances when he might have inadvertently accidentally been doing 80 in a 35?

Agree with all. She’s worth $15 million. I have no idea what a civil trial would generate over the deaths of 2 children.

I thought her attorneys made things worse. I don’t think she was street racing given the speed her car was capable of as well as her past record. It sounded like her boyfriend was in front of her and she was following. It seems to me he was a contributing factor and should be in any civil lawsuit. I would imagine the civil suite is capable of much higher awards than she’s worth.

The real tragedy here is the damage to Mercedes sales, as drivers who like to drink and drive recklessly at high speeds will choose another vehicle, rather than risk getting into a fatal crash and having the Mercedes shut down automatically before you can escape the neighborhood.

[/sarcasm]

I worded my post poorly. When I wrote “he”, I meant you, Magiver. It sounded to me like you were trying to justify the times you said that you found yourself speeding.

I have never thought I was driving 45 MPH or so, only to glance at the speedometer and think, oh shit, I’m actually driving 40 MPH faster than that.

I doubt the car shut down out of civic duty. She probably damaged the radiator and it was losing fluid. The picture of it shows a big puddle underneath.

Sarcasm aside I’m wondering if her car had a collision alert system. I have a HUD display in my car that flashes lights on the windshield with an alarm.

If you need your car to tell you you’ve been in a collision, you shouldn’t be driving.

I can see that. But No. We are responsible for our actions.

My car tells me if I’m approaching an object and I’m not braking. Something that should be standard on all cars. Drivers can’t be looking 360 degrees at all times so it helps if you’re looking in the rear view mirror and a car stops in front of you or a person walks into your path.

It’s a collision avoidance system. But I think you knew that.

Yeah, they can. But they have to actually pay attention to their driving. I managed to drive professionally for 18 years without an accident or ticket, 12 of that in SF Bay Area traffic.

I’ve driven for 40 years without a ticket or accident. But prior to that I was in an accident that involved looking in my rear view mirror while the highway traffic came to a complete stop. If you think you can see brake lights in front of you while looking in your rear view mirror you will find yourself unpleasantly surprised.

I remember growing up that wealthy people and celebrities could cut deals and avoid serious penalties.

I’m glad the justice system is changing. I expect Grossman will be quite old before leaving prison.

Reports say she was stopped several times and warned about dangerous driving. She should have listened.

Then you were looking too long and failed to assess the developing traffic ahead of you. Or you were following too closely to react.

I’d like to know about her past speeding incidences.

Best of luck with your perfect 18 year record but there is no way you can be looking in every direction all the time.

No but you can assess what’s developing in the direction you’re looking and never looking in any one place for too long. Eyes should be constantly moving.

When you were growing up, how did you know this was happening? Stuff you read? Maybe letters to the editor or other unchecked assertions? I will ask you straight out: how do you know when something that you read or that someone says is actually true?
