Sock it to me? "Laugh-In" on Tubi TV

I was looking in my Tubi TV app when what should appear in my feed but Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In? The entire run of episodes, six seasons, 140 episodes. These aren’t shortened “best of” shows, but full-length episodes as originally shown on NBC-TV. It even includes the original pilot episode. They even have the opening sequence with the peacock to alert you that they’re in color. Most of the humor is dated, but it’s still worth watching for the banter between Dan and Dick, announcer Gary Owens, and the earliest appearances of future stars such as Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, and Lily Tomlin.

Tubi TV is free and can be downloaded to your phone and smart TV.

“Say good night, Dick.”
“Goodnight, Dick!”

:v: Sock it to me baby. :v: -Nixon

By giving Nixon a chance to appear vaguely human on this show, Rowan and Martin may have made the difference in getting him elected (it was a pretty tight race). That’s a lot to answer for.

And it was “Sock it to me?” in disbelief.

A mistake repeated 40-odd years later by Jimmy Fallon.

When I hear about Laugh-In the first thing that pops in my mind is this guy

They made the same offer to Humphrey. He turned them down. Mistake on his part.

Humphrey did appear on the premiere episode of the Pat Paulsen Half A Comedy Hour. Didn’t have quite the same impact. Pat Paulsen show is also on Tubi.

I recommend watching at least the first three seasons and part of the fourth. The show is funnier if you watch all of them in sequence, you get more of the vibe of it.

This is when I wish my mom was still alive, she loved that show.

Very Interesting

One ringy dingy

And you can look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls

You bet your sweet bippy!

… but stupid!

“Have I reached the party to whom I am speaking?”

And that’s the truth! :stuck_out_tongue:

It better be the truth, 'cause…

Here come de judge!

I was recently watching reruns on one of the on-air retro channels for awhile. Some of the humor was surprisingly risqué for the time. In an exchange between Dan and Dick:

We need to speak tête-à-tête.

Do we need to take our shirts off for that?

A lot of changes between the pilot and the first season opener. Also, I didn’t know Barbara Feldon was in the first few episodes-damn, she was good!.

Mighty fine-looking family you’ve got there, Fred.

I tried some episodes a while ago. Sadly, the humor doesn’t age well.

I just found out that Nixon wasn’t the originator of “Sock it to me?”. It was Leo G. Carroll, in the first episode.
