Does anyone make the old-style “soft” laundry baskets any more? You know, the kind of heavy rubbery ones that you could practically bend in half? They used to be a staple of Rubbermaid offerings.
Now absolutely everything seems to be the more rigid plastic, still flexible but more breakable, with inset handles.
I’d like to find an old-style one if there’s any place to get one.
Did a change in plastics (safety, chemicals, whatever) cause the big changeover?
I think Rubbermaid still makes that kind of laundry basket. I found it on Amazon, although it seems silly to buy something so light and bulky mail order.
We buy a lot of “silly” stuff from Amazon - coffee, jam, shampoo, mops are just some.
Post or PM a link? I have searched and not found anything but the newer, more rigid kind.
Search Amazon for the “Rubbermaid Home 296585WHT Laundry Basket.”
That’s kind of old school which is what he asked for but not as flexible as this one.
The first one is close but it still looks to be made of the newer, thinner and more rigid/breakable plastic. There’s also something very odd going on with pricing - lack of supply or something is pushing the prices close to $100 from around $20. I wonder if these are the last of the batch.
The second one is more flexible, yes, but it’s still that same plastic.
I can only conclude that cost, chemicals or some other factor drove the old rubbery material off the market.
I will probably try one of those first ones, though. It’s an Xmas present, believe it or not (Mrs B treasures her last battered “rubbery” one and hates the two new ones that are falling apart.)
Thanks, both of you.
