Soggy cats

I was going to write “wet pussies” but that would have been crass and misleading.

I washed my cats.

It’s been 35 here with a humidex bringing the temp up to about 42. The apartment is beastly hot (worse than outside). I came home to find Fat One lying on the floor panting heavily (looked like a trout on the deck of a ship) and Little One looking like she was going to puke. The pads of their feet were really, really hot. I figured I could bring their body temps down a bit by having them wade in about two inches of cool water.

Little One went first. She was quite terrified, but resigned to her fate and I was able to saturate her fur. (Her tail stayed poofy from fear even though it was wet.)

Fat One, on the other hand, was so scared that he went pee in the water. Twice. Refilled the tub each time (not even two inches of water, the big baby!).

It seemed to have the desired effect though. They are both much happier and were purring as their fur was drying. They aren’t panting anymore and their paddy-paws aren’t hot.

Cool. If it stays this hot I’ll try again and see if I can get them used to it. I’ll have champion swimmers in no time! (Can’t do it regulalry though. Wouldn’t be good for their skin.)
