Some B5 questions from the newly corrupted viewer

In one episode he states “Now, I was raised a good Catholic boy…”

You know what’s nice? I borrowed the DVD’s of the 3rd season and was enthralled!

So I’m going TONIGHT! to buy the 4th season box set.

great show, can’t wait to see it all the way through. I’ve seen most of the 4th season episodes but it was hit or miss. Now I’ll turn off the phone and make a pot of coffee and Woo-Hoo!

There was no Season 5, just like there were no Highlander sequels etc.

I haven’t bought the series on DVD yet, but I should. Just to watch them every day. Damn that was a good show. I wonder, how it would’ve looked if season 4 was split into 2 seasons as intended?

There may have not been a season 5, but there WAS the “Sleeping in Light” umm, TV movie.

Season five had it moments. Especially towards the end with
The Centauri War? Londo’s coronation and the lead-up to? Very well done IMO and a great tragic arc. I’d agree the first part of the season is rather weak, but I wouldn’t use such a broad brush on all of them.

And Deconstruction of Falling Stars pwned. Sleeping in Light had me in tears. They do know how to make season ending episodes!
Season 5 would’ve been a lot better if real life hadn’t interfered. Originally, Lyta’s arc was planned for Ivanova, and the season 4 finale was going to be “Intersections in Real Time”.

I actually liked season 5, Crusade turned up last night so Im going to go watch that now.

Are you sure she did not say

Boom…Boom…Boom Boom boom

B5 was upgraded in season two , I believe , to be able to take on a cruiser class warship.

The station was never designed to stand up to a sustained assualt , but more to defend against raiders and to maintain an honorable defense. The Earth Military is in a transitional phase , with a new standardized warship , the omega class destroyer , which was designed with fighting the mimbari in a new war.

The flow chart for the various militarys and their rankings , would probably be

1 Vorlons
2 shadows
3 mimbari
4 Earth ------------------------------------More militaristic than the centauri
5 centauri ---------------------------------Was originally Narn, now promoted
6 narn ------------------------------------No longer exists as a cohesive force

Someone’s gotta say it, so I will.

Don’t buy the Season 5 DVDs. IMO, Season 5 was Voyager-level in its crappiness.

You have to buy them for the sake of closure , otherwise you would never feel you got the full story. Honestly , would you have ignored season 5 , when it aired ? or watched it anyways.

Declan

But B5 doesn’t really have closure, does it? The series may end but the story goes on; there’s so much we don’t see.

Although I thought season 5 had some strong episodes. I haven’t gotten around to buying the season 5 and Crusade DVDs but I plan to eventually. By the way, did the Legend of the Rangers pilot ever make it onto DVD?

Season 5 was generally crap, but there were some highlights. The Centari episodes, for example. G’Kar shines Season 5.

My favorite bit that Season was the passed on message from Kosh. Spooky.

What I’d like to know, still, is
why in hell was Lyta treated so shabbily by Sheridan and the others? She’d done as much as any of them to bring about victory in the Shadow War and the Civil War, and as soon as she stopped being useful they pretty much dropped her. It seems inconsistent with their characters that they wouldn’t try to do something to help her make a living.

Although I’m still moderately peeved that things couldn’t get worked out with Claudia, I also think that the Byron arc worked better with Lyta than it would have with Ivanova.
I’m also still thoroughly ticked at TNT/TBS (which was it? I always get them confused) for not leaving JMS alone to do Crusade his way, and for canceling it when it didn’t generate immediate killer ratings. Stupid, short-sighted boobie-heads. I’d have loved to kick their heads up their asses, but they’d already done all the work.

IMO, it’s because Lyta was too closely involved with the Vorlons and had sheltered part of Kosh’s consciousness within her mind. It was felt that she was too compromised to be part of the inner team anynmore.

But you have to give TNT credit with giving B5 a home after the WB syndication network PTEN folded.

Interesting idea. I’ll have to think about it.

My only problem with the idea is that they were treating her badly even BEFORE they knew the Vorlons may have left some “time bombs” behind, such as her triggering Z’ha’dum’s destruction.

No, I don’t. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they took it for year 5 because we got to see the entire story. But they only did it because B5 had established a track record and good ratings. I’d be willing to bet that if B5 had started on their network, it wouldn’t have gone past 13 episodes, either, and we wouldn’t have seen the story JMS wanted to tell because the network would have interfered as they did with Crusade. Meddling, arrogant, short-sighted boobie-heads.

I went looking for season two , at the video store where I bought season one, and while they did not have it , they did have a DVD with Five B-5 movies , so its possible that legend made it to DVD.

Unfortunately it isnt in that set, the Movies in that one are (in Series order):
In The Beginning (A prelude to B5 as told by Londo at the end of the series),
The Gathering (The Pilot)
Thirdspace
River of Souls
A Call to Arms(The Pilot for Crusade)
