Seems like you are making a circular argument and avoiding the general principle.
And the following?
It’s egregious racism and the guy should’ve received a clear warning. That would’ve been good for this unseen audience to see. I really am surprised all he got was a history lesson and a finger wag.
Are you seriously suggesting that “Black people are less intelligent” is not hate speech?!?
If this doesn’t merit a warning then what does? Do they have to start throwing “Nigger” around before you take action? People are warned for insults (outside the pit), but you’re quite happy to let this slide?
Those are not in discussion here. This post is. And it is open, blatant racism. Don’t try and change the subject with “whataboutsism” .
I’m pretty sure most people are here because the board is an enjoyable place to post and read the posts of others. That enjoyment goes down when people with extremely gross viewpoints are allowed to post freely.
“But wait!” I hear you thinking, “how can we precisely define what an extremely gross viewpoint is? It’s such a tricky grey area!” Not to fear, I’ve made you a list:
Instaban:
- Pro-pedophilia
- Stormfront-style racism, e.g. promotes the inferiority of traditionally targeted groups like blacks, Jews, etc.
Short leash:
- Consistently being creepy in a sexual way
- Trump voters
Ha ha, that last one was a joke (kind of), but you see how easy it is? There’s only three items and they’re pretty easy patterns to spot, especially in new posters. And you don’t have to feel bad about not giving these people as many chances as everyone else because they’re fundamentally bad people.
I am not discussing a general principle. I am discussing the one post, which is open, blatant racism.
Let’s not divert this into a general question about where is the line, and what is the line, etc. Here. we can all see the line was crossed.
No?
“Reasoning will never make a Man correct an ill Opinion, which by Reasoning he never acquired”
Racism is not ignorance.
Pour encourager les autres
Although, yes in general, I don’t approve of those, and would be in favor of warning and bannings, it’s a case by case basis. How open is it? How Blatant?
But we have one case open here. And it is open, blatant, and disgustingly racist.
So, once we ban this disgusting racist, let’s talk about other cases. But ban this dude first.
Consider the following statements.
‘White folks just want to dismantle roll back woman’s rights, roll back gay and lesbian rights, roll back affirmative action, roll back regulations on the environment, etc.’
‘Some White folks just want to dismantle roll back woman’s rights, roll back gay and lesbian rights, roll back affirmative action, roll back regulations on the environment, etc.’
‘Blacks are just dumb and enjoy killing each other.’
‘Some Blacks are just dumb and enjoy killing each other.’
See the difference?
“Some” is not a weasel word.
Regards,
Shodan
You may like case by case, arbitrary, and inconsistent but others may like clarity and consistency. And why shut down legitimate avenues of discussion? Would Giraffe’s pro pedophilia instaban rule apply to an 18 year old poster discussing age of consent laws with regards to a 17 year old partner for example?
Short leash with Trump voters. If serious that’s just ridiculous. Was that a serious suggestion, Giraffe?
And since when is it open season to insult another poster just because a question was raised in ATMB?
I am not talking about inconsistent or arbitrary. I am talking about one single post. That is what is under discussion.
Now, sure, if you like, go ahead and open a thread in ATMB discussing general rules about racist posts. Defend them all you want.
OK, you’re right, that was a bad typo. Disgustingly racist post, and the poster who posted it should be banned.
Naah, I’m good, thanks.

Off topic. Let’s stick with the topic at hand. You guys know where the Start New Thread button is.
Thanks.
From post in question:
“It’s a huge mistake to assume blacks are good people merely because some have been victims of racism.”
Lovely. Nice that it was moderated at all, but what the fuck? Nevermind hypothetical what-ifs, that’s from the post. It’s sick that a post like that isn’t allowed to be met with an equally non-warnable and vulgar response.
Just from a practical, bookkeeping standpoint if I understand the system properly: when a warning isn’t given then the moderation doesn’t go down on your permanent record. That means the mods have to rely on memory to be aware that the guy once posted that stuff. So, if continued posting like that is likely to lead to banning, then it makes sense to have a record of the footsteps leading there.
So yeah: Post which is way out of bounds. A possible ban if future posts are similar. Looks like a warning would be in order
I like the idea that we save insta-bans for spammers and socks, so I’m not on the same page with folks calling for an immediate ban. But I hope tom pops into this thread and gives us his reasoning for no warning issued.
It’s a no-win situation. If you say “Blacks are not good people” then people are pretty darn sure you’re being racist even if you accidentally meant to say “some”. If you say “Some Blacks are not good people” then it seems too obvious to even mention. If you want to own your racism and you say “All Blacks are not good people” then posters will assume you’re an Australia fan.
Yes. I would say that racism is a no win situation. And that’s the way it should be.
I think it would set a bad precedent if the Moderators retroactively issued warnings based on the clamoring of other posters.
