Some teenage pukes pulled a knife on my son just now!

“I’d hang you from the nipples, but you’d shock the children.”
And Kwyjibo, I’m so sorry to hear about this, but relieved to hear he’s ok. 11! Really hope you catch the bastards.

Reminds me of what one of my mates was telling me. They were out driving and saw some shitwit 8th graders picking on a sixth grader. “That isn’t right. Let’s do some regulating!” said my friend. That is the reason they keep baseball bats and 2x4s in their trunk (to scare opportiunists like that). When they circled the block, the dicks had left. FYI, my friends are 17. So there are some teens who are more than willing to stick up for the little guy. I would have liked to hear how the shits pissed their pants, but unfortunately, they will have to wait till later.

Best of luck in catching those assclowns! If your son is going into places where he might feel endangered, see if you have an older (teenage) relative or family friend that lives nearby who would be willing to walk with him. I would bet they would be more than willing to help stick up for the little one.

Funny thing is that I lived in Texas for 4 years around 1970 and at that time I could have shot the guy in the yard, but if I called the cops, I had to drag him into the house first. Then I could say he was trying to break in. Never mind that there would have been blood and such in the yard. Blue laws.

Kids are, indeed, quite stupid…and they can be more vicious than many adults suspect. I am a good indication of that - when I was four, some teen goons offered me some water which turned out to be HCl. I didn’t find that out until after I had drank it, of course…

I’m glad the idiot kids your son ran into didn’t decide to actually use the knife.

HCl! Damn, did you suffer permanent damage? Did the goons get caught? Ugh.

Sadly, there have always been monstrous brats running around. In the past, maybe they were more common in ghettos, and maybe didn’t have such easy access to weapons, but they were still around.

This sucks Kwyjibo–but good on you for teaching your son to handle things like this with the law, rather than with retaliatory violence.
As for the “kids these days” issue, well, it’s a tough one. I’m relatively young (24), but even I don’t remember having to deal with other kids having weapons, or using them. I was fairly sheltered though, so that’s not saying much. Can any older dopers give an account of the “bullies of old”? And why does it seem like they’re multiplying?
My list
absent parents–maybe just out working to support the family, but absent nonetheless. Lack of supervision just encourages delinquency

weapon availabilty–makes it difficult for a victim to respond to taunting or pushing/shoving because you never know if they have knife or a gun, etc. Without this, I think a lot of the punks would get a good ass-kicking or two and be suddenly “reformed”

death of “neighborhood”–few people are willing to stand up and correct a kid who isn’t their own anymore. I remember getting my ass reamed by a neighbor more than once as a child, and then a second time when I got home, because the neighbor had already called my mom. People seem to rarely even know their neighbors anymore.

boredom–and not because there is nothing to do, but because (in suburbia at least) they’ve already done it all. How spoiled can a kid be that with a room full of toys, books, computer equipment, video games, sports gear, and art supplies they can claim boredom? Conversely–poor kids with little or no recreational equipment are left with little to do unless guided by a loving parent–who’s probably at work, or another good kid. Sometimes the bad kids just find them first, I think.

osmosis–as in “one bad apple spoils the whole bunch”. Chances are the majority of these kids are just going along with those one or two kids with all the ideas and all the influence. That doesn’t make them followers or weak, that just makes them young.

I feel like such an old fogey…dagnabbit and tarnation!

Holy shit.

Trinity sat and chatted with the babysitter this afternoon.

Looks like we have names for these two fucks.

More to come…

Not meaning to hijack Kwyjibo’s thread, I will direct you here (short answer: yes to the former, I have no idea to the latter).

No prob.

I didn’t know what HCl was so I had to look it up. (Duh!)

Damn! That’s fuckin’ messed up!!!

Oh my God, so your son is a KID kid (I’m assuming, if he’s young enough to have a teenage babysitter), and those punks pulled a knife on him???

Jesus!

I mean, not that it would be BETTER if he were older, but a KID…??? That sucks, man. I’m sorry.:frowning:

Now we have a night time law. If someone approaches you or your family members after dark in a threatening manner, you may react with deadly force. Not sure of the particular law that was passed, but I believe it was in response to a woman being assaulted at her car when leaving work. Combine that with a concealed hand gun license and there should be many fewer trials for people charged with assault.

If I found someone in my yard in the middle of the night, there is a great chance they wouldn’t make it out alive. If they were stalking one of my children, I can promise it.

Someone from Dallas chiming in:

A couple years ago, there was a guy here in South Dallas that kept getting his “gold rims” stolen from his (undoubtedly) piece of shit car. Anyway, the guy set up a car alarm without a siren, and hooked up a pager to it. Pager goes off, and the guy jumps to action. He comes out with an AK 47. Four guys jump into an econobox car. Man unloads a clip into a (now fleeing) car. Guy gets no-billed for murder by a Grand Jury.

Pretty sure that’s how it went. Someone else from Big D correct me if I have the facts wrong.

And no, I don’t think you have to drag a potential robber’s corpse into your house anymore in Texas if you shoot him at night.

Yeeeeeeeee-Haaaaah!!!

Yeah, it was. I mentioned it as a kind of “bad case” scenario - the really scary thing is that mine was not even “worst case” - as to what kids will do to other kids (or even to adults, if given the chance, I’m sure). So, I’m glad that you are taking steps to find out the idiots responsible for pulling the knife on your son, and that it wasn’t any worse than that.

I’m sure I will have confirmation soon enough.

A morbid part of me thought that night, “If somethnig HAD happened, I am just so glad I had spent the day shopping with him and had taken him to see The TIme Machine.” That way, I wouldn’t be kicking myself in the ass for 'not spending time with him.

::Shakes Head::

But that didn’t happen.

On another note, something did happen today with him.
There is this kid in his class that is always bullying him. Well, this kid stoll a GameBoy from some other kid in the class. My son witnessed it.

When the other kid noticed it was gone, my son waited until his parents to come and pick him up and it was then that my sone told the parent that he had seen someone steal it.

The parent went to the bully’s house and asked for it back. The bully said, of course, “I don’t have it”. The bully’s mother then searched the house and found the GameBoy in his pillow.

My son recieved $25 as a reward. ::Proud Fatherly Grin::

I am thinking of of becoming a night-time vigilante and using my son as my sidekick. What do ya think?

You’ll need a good super-hero team name. And capes of course. Capes are key.

First off sorry to hear about your son I hope he’s ok. A few days ago I had an interesting encounter, where a few kids (they were 18 or 19, I’m 28) tried to rob me. One of the kids faked like he had a gun, and they tried to cut me off and wanted my money. I told the fuckers to go ahead and shoot me, but kids dont know how to follow through these days. I keep thinking how screwed up these kids are nowadays, and how worse its going to get when our morality finally crumbles to dust. Oh well better go sit in my rocking chair with a shotgun.

Btw you should have seen the look on their faces, it was pretty funny. Mystified would be an understatement.

Sorry to hear about your son… I’m glad he’s okay. I really hope you catch the little ases that did it!

I’m sorry about your son getting the knife pulled on him. He wasn’t hurt thankfully.

Good job on submitting a police report!

Belladonna brings up a point that I keep seeing…

Nobody wants to get involved. They see something happening, take the hockey dad trial. They watched the beating and could have saved the guy’s life if everyone had gone to break up the fight…

Kwyjibo, make sure that report gets filed!

Cheezit… It’s probably too late now but you should have demanded to speak to the cop’s Sgt or Lt about them not letting you file a report. The guy DID commit a crime, or at the very least did something that having legal documentation about his actions would benifit both you and the community.
