I’ve been looking forward to the new season of this show all summer! I’ll be honest - I TiVo this one. It’s not a guilty pleasure show for me - I will proudly proclaim my love for dogs in sunglasses, little kids scared of Mickey Mouse, and the ubiquitous groin shots. It’s Comedy Gold every time, I tell ya’.

Last night, I even predicted the $10,000 winner before they announced which three videos were finalists. Last season (or the one before), I predicted one of the $100,000 winners when it was just a plain ol’ video being shown to millions of us appreciative viewers. (I gotta find a bookie for this kind of stuff!)

So, who’s with me??

When I told my husband to turn on AFV last night, I admitted that it’s my fault this show is still on the air and that I am what’s wrong with America today.

America’s Funniest Videos.

This’d be a good show to TiVo. Skip the patter and just go for the gold.

It’d be interesting to know how many minutes of the show are the videos. Would it be as much as 10 minutes, do you think?

I don’t know - we actually listen to all of the stuff between the videos. Especially if they do the “Slow-Mo Gizmo” bit.

They had a new “game” last night - “Head, Gut, or Groin.” They showed a contestant the beginning of a video and paused it. The contestant then had to guess where the guy got hit - head, gut, or groin. She was great! She got 2 out of 3. (The last video was groin then head, and she guessed gut.)

Does Saget still host it? He was pretty darn funny in Half Baked.

Last night’s premier kicked off the 16th season. Bob Saget’s been gone for a looong time - since 1997, accoring to IMDb. From 1997 - 2000, it was hosted by Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang. Now it’s Tom Bergeron - never heard of him until this show.

I know him as a game show host, which makes sense for AFV since they’ve started playing games with the clips.

Love the show. Endless amusement. It is my goal to send in a tape one day, but I must wait for the right mix of cute baby + dog hijinks. I have a theory that pets win over adults, but babies win over pets, so I want a combo. Once in a while old people or fat people getting stuck / falling down pull out ahead though.

It is usually not the funniest video that wins, it is one that has a good set up and/or added cuteness factor. There are usually one or two videos that have me dying of laughter but they never even make the final 3.

I’ve noticed the same thing, therefore I can almost always predict the winner out of the 3 finalists. That also explains why my all-time favorite video is the quintuplets laughing in unision. Awwww…

There are no words for how cute that video is.

I TiVo these up and watch them all at the end of the season in a big block. It’s just too stressful to wait from week to week to see what happens; I like to get the whole story all at once. So please, make sure to use spoiler boxes!

Argh! There are no words for how annoying and disgusting that video is! Not to mention excruciatingly long.

My dad and I call them “The Slugs”. It was bad enough to see them win the show, but to be subjected to that video five or six more times as it made it’s way to the $100,000 prize was horrible.

Yeah, I love this one, too! A baby’s laughter always makes me laugh like crazy!

I guess I can understand that some might find it annoying (not me, though!), but I don’t understand why it’d be disgusting*.*

I don’t think it’s disgusting, but after I saw this clip a couple of times, I thought it was a bit creepy. I can’t explain it, really, it’s just weird. The way they stop laughing, and then one of them giggles, and they all start laughing again. Giggling zombie babies!!! :eek:

I watch this, too. But only for the dogs. Dogs are very funny.

I think I just hate babies. I’m sure if it was my own kid it would be different, but I don’t like looking at other people’s drooling, ugly whiny little screaming machines.

Baby laughs are cute. However, four monotoned, synchronized baby laughs playing over and over is downright creepy to me.

I think the cat got robbed last night. He was WAY funnier than that blonde getting slapped in the face with waterweeds.

Oh - here’s my theory for figuring out who wins:

  1. Funny kid/baby
  2. Funny/crazy animal
  3. Anything else

UNLESS something is just so outrageously hilarious or miraculous that the whole audience pisses their pants or gasps out loud, a funny kid/baby clip is almost guaranteed to win the $10,000. If it involves an animal, it’s gonna be second to none.

OK, I admit it. I love AFV. I TiVo it and skip ahead to the videos.

I especially love when people fall or something, hopefully no one gets hurt but it’s oh so funny. One of my favorite videos ever is of an old man getting on a moped and careening across the street into the bushes.

Oh and the Halloween video where some guy is walking up to a house and sees a scarecrow that suddenly gets up and comes at him and then he starts shrieking and hopping like a girl? Hysterical!!

BTW, anyone else think it was gross how that lady last night let her dog lick the inside of her mouth like that? He was really going for it, licking her teeth and jamming his tongue down her throat. I can understand letting your dog lick your face or something but that was just nasty!
