One of my co-workers has a junk food drawer in her desk full of peanuts, cookies, chips, and Reese’s peanutbutter cups. (She’s tall and naturally thin as a rail.) I’m the the only one here today. Her office is two doors away. Save me!
Help with what? How to break into the office?
How to get there?
Steady, cher. Be strong.
Nobody else there, you say?
Aw, what the heck. A munch or two won’t hurt.
Glad I could help.
I find a nail file or the flat head screwdriver part of a swiss army knife pries open even the toughest desk latch.
OK heres your help.
- Paperclips make good lock picks.
- Wear gloves so you don’t leave fingerprints.
- look both ways before entering her office.
- E-mail me a Reese’s peanutbutter cup to buy my silence.
Peace

It’s even worse than that: The door and the drawer aren’t locked and she invites people to eat the stuff.
Whew! Fortunately another co-worker just came in. She’s a vegetarian who runs and open-water swims every day. I wouldn’t dare indulge now.

Not sure I follow you, Vestal. Is that what you find in your desk drawer if you keep it full of food to long?
too long, that is.
Why don’t you buy your own food? Easy. Here’s how. Visit a store, pick up the food you want, pay for it.

handy – with a name like “handy” you are advising her NOT to steal?
Honey, it’s the holiday season and everyone wants to share… grab me one of those cheese cracker/peanut butter things if she has one!
Best!

Um, handy, I don’t think theft is the issue here. She’s trying to resist a craving for food freely offered.
Take the candy, replace it with rice cakes. That solves the problem of being tempted, anyway.

But hey, eat the stuff then. Go eat it. Why not? Is someone not eating or something?
Ah, the Christmas season; when delicious cookies, choclates, cake, fudge, etc., etc. are everywhere. Christmas is not a great time to start a diet. You need a solid month just for your body to adjust to the physical change in your eating habits. Christmas adds the additional psychological challenge of giving up the idea that celebrate=sweets.
I’m on a low-carbohydrate hypoglycemic diet so none for me. On the other hand I’ve gone down two belt notches in four weeks, so it’s worth it.
