My disdain is awe-inspiring.
I just used to clam up when people at the office would talk about yesterday’s Oprah. Now I’m kind of that jackass who makes his hatred known. I really do think the McCarthy/anti-vax stuff is just frightening and has the possibility to, you know, effectively reintroduce erradicated diseases back into America, should she convince enough people. So yeah, I speak up.
Oprah's Book Club - Wikipedia Here are her selections. There are some very good books there. Would you reject “100 Years of Solitude” because she recommended it?
The Dr. Oz episodes were very interesting.
“The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” is a great book. Ditto “East of Eden” and all three of those Faulkner novels, though I don’t think that the “Sound and the Fury” suggestion is a good one. That’s only a couple steps below sending people out to buy “Ulysses.” It’s just unkind.
I see the Oprah Book Club logo on a book the same as I would a Krusty the Clown branding. IOW, mass market branding designed to push sales with no correlation to the quality of the product.
Kinda like religion.
Her book club picks are so f’in depressing.
