They may have thought so because BK used to be owned by Diageo PLC.

MIAMI – Federal antitrust regulators cleared the sale of Burger King Corp. to a group of investors led by Texas Pacific Group, according to a spokesman with the Federal Trade Commission.

London-based Diageo PLC in July said it had agreed to sell BK for $2.26 billion in cash to Fort Worth, Texas-based Texas Pacific Group; Boston-based Bain Capital Inc., parent of Domino’s Pizza; and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, the private-equity arm of U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs. The deal is slated to close in BK’s fourth quarter.

Burger King had been owned by Pillsbury until the Dough Boy’s [purchase by Britain’s Grand Metropolitan Ltd.](www.burgerking.com/CompanyInfo/ bk_corporation/fact_sheets/corp_bg.aspx) in 1988. Grand Met and Guinness merged in 1997 to form Diageo, which sold BK in 2002.
