I decided to check my spam filter log, since I’ve been “not getting” a lot of spam today. (I have my filters set to delete without pity many types of e-mails.) Turns out that most of the spam I didn’t receive today was “sent” 09/29/02. Yup, a year ago. I guess someone has made a new spam sender and is trying to sneak messages in by dating them a year ago.
I had a few helpdesk calls about those a month or so back, on a few employees’ home accounts. I asked all of them to call back if they got more, but it seemed to be a one-shot attempt to get past the filters. None of my people responded!
Permit me to hijack - I am going to Sedona in a few weeks, and I want to take a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon (yeah, I am addicted ever since my first ride in Kauai). It seems like I hear about a lot of copter crashes over the Canyon, is it a particularly difficult flight or are there just unsafe operators doing business?
Any recommendations for “safe” tour companies operating out of Sedona?
Actually, the Bell JetRanger is the safest single-engine aircraft in the U.S. (There’s a cite in one of these threads around here.) The reason you hear about the crashes is because they are so rare. Rarity makes them newsworthy. Which is not to say that it doesn’t happen. As Mr. Merriweather said in Little Big Man, “Every enterprise contains a particle of risk.” But the risk is not great in this case. Mornings usually have calmer winds, which makes for a smoother ride and less-tricky wind currents around rises and depressions.
As for spam, I’ve turned the spam filter on my e-mail server to its highest setting. Now people need authorisation to e-mail me.
