Someone to Love - FoW (spoilers)

First of all, Traffic and Weather (or whatever that album’s called :)) took a little getting used to as it is slightly different from Utopia Parkway and WIM (although more similar to them than to FoW.) It seems they are doing a mix of a parody and homage to a “Fountains of Wayne Album” rather than a straight-up FoW album, much like 12 Golden Country Greats by Ween is a slightly-gentle skewering of country.

But did anyone notice that on Someone to Love, Beth MacKenzie shares a last name with Father MacKenzie of Eleanor Rigby? And that both songs are about two people, who by pop-song conventions would normally be with each other by the end of the song, but are not? Do you think this was planned or just a coincidence?
