Something that's always bothered me about Harry Potter (Snape's memory spoiler)

Here here!! :dubious:

I’ve always been a bit irritated about the American illustrator’s depictions, so I’ve never really paid that much attention to them. I just assumed everyone was wearing robes.

Dung Beetle: Have you ever seen Dark Harbor?

(Pantless Alan Rickman…mmmmmmmmm.)

No, you recommend it?

Agreed. I was startled and disappointed to see them wearing muggle clothing in the movies–after all, it’s such a big deal in the books that many older wizards are completely unfamiliar with muggle clothing and fashion. This wouldn’t make sense if all wizards everywhere always wore muggle clothing under their robes.
ETA: Mmmm… Alan Rickman…

Not really for the plot, but the nudity is a rather nice touch.

And the movie ends with him kissing a young man. Hot!!!

Here’s a link to a drawing by one of HP fandom’s most popular artists. She seems to envision the robes as heavy material, over the head type robes, which could be pretty warm, I guess.

I think it looks a little odd, but as far as I’m concerned Marta’s pictures are as much canon as Mary Grand Pre’s. If you’re a HP fan and haven’t seen her stuff, I highly recommend checking out the whole artdungeon.net site!

eta: Link to Marta’s version of Snape’s Worst Memory. Interestingly, she has Lily in a movie-style uniform.

Hate to say it, but in the second drawing, Lupin and Wormtail both look like they’re wearing see through robes-with their pants clearly visible. I don’t mind the street clothes. What I mind is the inconsistencies between films.

I want some. Netflix doesn’t have it yet though.
