So I’m reading about this epidemic when it hits me that I work in a large medical reference lab, where we do obscure medical tests for clients around the country. No big deal, I suppose, since my lab mainly tests for cancer and genetic thrombophilia. But then the further thought occurs - on the other side of the bench from us is the INFECTIOUS DISEASE group, where they test for all kinds of bacteria and virus. On top of which, we have a dirty room at our end of the lab that’s held at negative air pressure, which means that all the air is sucked from the ID area into our area.
So. Here’s hoping that this thing doesn’t spread to the US until my week off. Otherwise, if you don’t hear from me, I guess you know why.
[sub]Disclaimer: I’m not really worried. We have good procedures in place to prevent contact with infectious materials and such. It’s just something to think about…[/sub]
