I read a story once about someone who, for some reason, had only one legal name and was living in the US. They decided that they really wanted at least a first and last name, and went to the local courthouse to get one. The court, however, rejected the name change petition on the grounds that one must declare their current full name to qualify for a name change, and wouldn’t accept a single name as one’s current, full, legal name.
