Somewhat stupid question about the movie 'Pi'

OK, I last night, after hearing rave review for years, I finally watched the movie ‘Pi’. I thought it was great, one of the best new films I’ve seen in a while.

Anyway, I was just looking at the cover of it, and under the ‘M’ rating, it says ‘Medium Level Sex Scenes’.

Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention, but I didn’t see a single sex scene or even sexual reference in the movie that would warrant a ‘Medium Level Sex Scenes’ rating.

The only thing I can think of is when the main character hears his neighbours having teh sex0r through the walls, but I’ve seen more suggestive material in a PG movie.

Are there deleted scenes I don’t know about? Or did the censors just screw up?

I thought M was an ESRB rating; what does it mean when the MPAA uses it? Is M a more restrictive rating than PG?

Well, I live in Australia, and the rating system goes like this, from lowest to highest.

G
PG
M
MA
R (18+)

Aha I see. There are a lot of different rating systems. Here’s what Pi got: Argentina:13 / Australia:M / Chile:14 / France:U / Germany:12 / Norway:15 / UK:15 / USA:R

Is that the only reason they give for giving it an M rating, or is it one of a list? I don’t remember anything harsher than you do, and the MPAA rating decision doesn’t mention sex at all.

That’s another thing that puzzled me; the other reason was low level course language. I didn’t think there was any in the film, but I just assumed there was and I didn’t notice it.

This can only be attributed to human error.
