Pride of Ladner - Will Sasso - would like to share some words…
Between his First Edition days and country music success, Kenny often showed up during commercial breaks pitching his Quick-Pickin’ ‘n Fun-Strummin’ Home Guitar Course.
For those only familiar with Rogers later work, check out Ruby and Reuben James, two great story songs from early in his career.
Very first record (45) that I remember buying, although it could have been one of my older siblings. Prior to that, all the recorded music in the house was either my parents’ or kiddy albums.
JpnGal and I just watched the Jennifer Aniston film “Dumplin’” on Netflix last week. The idol of the main character is Dolly Parton, who also co-produced the film. Anyway, JpnGal wasn’t too familiar with Dolly Parton so we watched some YouTube videos of her performing. Of course, her duet with Kenny singing “Islands in the Stream” came on. And she recognized him immediately. Surprisingly, she remembered him as that “rotisserie chicken” guy. About 20 years ago, there used to be a few Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurants in Japan. She still talks about how much she enjoyed eating there.
Frankly, this is amazing. But, everyone is different. Look up Ruby and Reuben James on YouTube. See Kenny Rogers when he was young and singing interesting songs.
If Ruby doesn’t move you, you are stone.
