I have been going through the back archives of the comic strip “Something Positive” As it says on wiki, Many women seem to find him (Davan, the leading man) inexplicably ugly, despite his average looks. Odd. There are some really out of proportion reactions out there.

I was just hoping people could recount other examples from fiction of people reacting in out of proportion ways to seeing people cast as “ugly”

As for Something Positive I imagine it’s hard to make a comic strip character ‘ugly’ without making it into a caricature. It’s also mentioned in the strip that he has a hairy monkey body (if I remember the description correctly) yet he doesn’t look too hairy in the strip.
