Song from about 1974...title??

This song may have the title “Let the Show Go On,” but I don’t know…
It has a verse beginning, “an enormous crowd of people, they’re all after my blood!”
Any ideas?

The Show Must Go On by Three Dog Night

The Show Must Go On by Three Dog Night, written by Leo Sayer, I think??

Beaten to the punch

Starts out with a classic carnival calliope tune which vastly predates the song itself.

Thanks to all. My younger brother recorded some stuff in 1974 and 1975 on a 40-minute cassette, but he didn’t tell me all the titles.

Correct,

I’ve wondered if these lines were a call-out to Leon Russel,
Walkin’ on the wire, high wire
“Tight Rope” from 1972 and
Far away from this masquerade
“This Masquerade” also from 72?

CMC fnord!

Entrance Of The Gladiators, by Julius Fucik.

On a side note, I remember hearing a few DJs in the 70s accidentally refer to a Leo Sayer song as being by Leon Russell.

For comparison with the 3DN version, here’s Leo Sayer’s original.

On Hollywood Squares, a question for Mel Brooks: Before their combat in the arena, the gladiators would assemble before the Emperor and say something to him. What?
Mel’s answer: “We have to go to the john!”
(The correct answer: * morituri te salutamus * (“we who are about to die salute you.”)
