The A31 as a road did exist at the time, and is in exactly the right place you’d expect characters from the area the show focusses on to use it, and 8:31 sounds a bit late. Of course there would be little to none private motoring.
When I was a kid, I misheard that as “at the age 31”, which makes equal sense: 31 was call-up age, but Mr Brown could have been in a reserved occupation.

Unless your claim is that you’ve long thought that ‘bathroom on the right’ was the correct lyric and, once you found out it wasn’t, feel it is a plausible alternative to the proper lyric.

We had a pair of Mourning Doves that had a nest in the bushes. Mama Dove only had one wing. They raised babies in that bush for 4 years running. We moved so for all I know she is still sitting in the nest popping out babies while Daddy Dove is still scrounging food for her and the offspring.
My other excuse is the video had a white dove flapping about fast enough you couldn’t tell if it had one or two wings.
