“I’ve got blisters on me fingers” from Helter Skelter by The Beatles (does anyone know whose voice that is?)
“Maybe get a blister on your little finger, maybe get a blister on your thumb” from Money for Nothin’ by Dire Straits
“Played it 'til my fingers bled” from Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams
“With the echos from the amplifiers ringing in my head” from Turn the Page by Bob Seger
I have heard that it is John who screams about the blisters on his fingers.
Are you looking for direct physical damage or damage from the “rock and roll lifestyle”, such as drug addiction, jet lag and broken hearts? We could go on for ages about that if you like.
“Sex and drugs and rock and roll” Ian Dury and the Blockheads
“Cocaine” Eric Clapton
“Long live rock” The Who
from which
“Wide eyed and legless” Andy Fairweather-Low
“White punks on dope” The Tubes
“Shine on you crazy diamond” Pink Floyd - about the mental breakdown of Syd Barrett folloing extensive drug abuse.
“Why did you do it” Stretch - Peter Green consumed a drink that he was unaware had been laced with LSD, he had a bad trip and mental breakdown, he later tried to form his own band called Fleetwood Mac following the breakup of the original band but it went to the courts and he lost to the other former members of the band - this song is about both stories
“Take a walk on the wild side” Lou Reed, - the lines
Jackie’s just speeding away,
Thought she was James Dean for a day,
but I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that best
Is a referance to a transvestite practice that Reed had observed, they would use amphetamines to keep their weight down to maintain a svelte figure and keep up the partying lifestyle, however something had to give - rock’n’ roll indeed.
Well, I was thinking about the damage caused by the music/instruments/gear itself rather than the lifestyle. Certainly there are a zillion songz about alcohol/drugs/groupies and the damage they cause. Let’s skip that.
As to the root cause of my question:
a) I have a bad back, largely because of lifting gear, and I can’t help but notice
b) I’m looking for quotes for the band web site (which I recently wrote)
c) Now that I’m over 40, the amplifiers are ringing in my head pretty much constantly, even on days when the band didn’t play the night before.
I’m running Seven Nation Army through my head, but I don’t think there’s anything in there. I guess the problem is that if people write songs about this sort of thing, it’s perceived as whining.
