1967 (So Long Ago) – Tom Robinson
There’s also 1967 by Don McLean.
Added to the one upthread, that’s 3 different songs about the same year.
Do we have a winner?
I should have mentioned that the Sisters song is a cover of this one.
Anne-Marie - 2002
May I mention by the way that it kinda freaks me out that we’re getting nostalgia songs set in the 21st century now. We’re only just in the 21st century - aren’t we? Aren’t we?
1999 - Charlie XCX (totally different song to Prince’s 1999)
Also, not quite what the OP is asking for but Kid Rock’s All Summer Long is specifically about the summer of 1989.
I’m not sure either of these fit what the OP is looking for, since they are not about a single year.
What about “2112” by Rush? It’s not a single song but it does all take place within the specified year.
Nina Gordon from Veruca Salt did a song called “2003.” What I found a little weird is that the album it was on came out in 2000. It seems to me that most people, if they are going to write a song about looking forward to a given year, will choose a year that’s a ways off so it doesn’t date so fast. I mean, “1999” came out long before 1999 actually rolled around.
1900 Yesterday by Liz Damon’s Orient Express (#33 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, 1970)
1927 Kansas City by Mike Reilly (#88, 1971)
'65 Love Affair by Paul Davis (#6, 1982: originally titled “'55 Love Affair”, but the record company made him move it up ten years to make it more contemporary).
1982 by Randy Travis.
A few artists have songs about “The Summer of Love” (i.e.: 1967), including Scott McKenzie’s “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)”.
Night Moves, by Bob Seeger.
Eurythmics - Sex Crime 1984
Motörhead 1916
One of those rare Motörhead songs that is not so much metal, but still a heavy subject matter. The Great War (World War 1). Always liked this song. Sad and with Lemmy’s voice it feels so real.
By the way, I think this may be the only Motörhead song featuring a cello.
Australian band Hoodoo Gurus had a single - Miss Freelove '69, in reference to the year obviously. Clip.
“Soixante-Neuf… année érotique” - Gainsbourg & Birkin
How about the Year of the Cat Al Stewart The Year Of The Cat ..Lyrics in Description - YouTube
Jackson Browne…
Running on Empty has reference to a couple of years…
In 65 I was seventeen and running up 101
I don’t know where I’m running now, I’m just running on
In 69 I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don’t know when that road turned onto the road I’m on
1974– Robyn Hitchcock
