Songs about groupies

Also Zep’s, “Sick Again”.

AC/DC’s “Go Down” and “Whole Lotta Rosie” were about specific groupies.

Slade, The Bangin’ Man, Faces, Stay With Me, Lynyrd Skynyrd, What’s Your Name, Thin Lizzy, Don’t Believe A Word.

“Frank Mills” from the musical Hair.

Ray Davies’ Storyteller solo album has a song called “The Ballad of Julie Finkel” is about a fondly remembered groupie.

Sally Simpson” off The Who’s Tommy is about a kind of groupie, although within the context of the album not a music/movie one. However, IIRC Pete Townshend has said the song was inspired by teen girls he saw going crazy for Jim Morrison.

The somewhat obscure, black comedy early Pearl Jam song “Dirty Frank” is about a tour bus driver who’s also a Dahmer-esque serial killer. There are a couple of lines about how a “little groupie’s gettin’ chopped up in the back” by Frank.

“Living Wreck” by Deep Purple was about a groupie who turned out to be, oh, just a LITTLE older and less attractive than she first appeared.

"You took off your hair, you pulled out your teeth. I almost died of fright!!!!"

“Ladies of the Road” by King Crimson

“Once Bitten, Twice Shy” by Great White (written by Ian Hunter)

“Hot Blooded” by Foreigner

Basically, it's a rock singer saying "Ditch your boyfriend and meet me at my hotel room!"

“All Night Long” by Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow (featuring Graham Bonnet on vocals)

Jazz Discharge Party Hats, a 1984 Zappa song, one of those where Steve Vai plays notes corresponding to Zappa’s vocal intonations. Pure poetry! “Once upon a time, it was in Albuquerque, New Mexico…”

“Rocks Off” by Def Leppard

“I Go Crazy” by Queen

Told from the point of view of a groupie's cuckolded boyfriend!

REO Speedwagon’s “Back On The Road Again”.

I can't believe that cover got into the stores in 1979!

And if you REALLY want to stretch it, there’s Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana”.

That Wiki page has a link to her official website; some of the graphics are NSFW so I guess this will suffice for the two-click rule.

In recent years, she’s also cast women’s breasts and says she’s never had a “failure” in that department.

Funny anecdote: The first time R.E.M. ever played in Chicago, guess who showed up - and was thrown out? :o Peter Buck, who is not known to commonly be at a loss for words, said, “I’m not sure what to say to people like that. I mean, I’m sure they’re very nice girls and everything…”

:stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of R.E.M., “The One I Love” could potentially be about a groupie.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned *Billie Jean *yet.

“To All The Girls We’ve Loved Before” by Willie and Julio.

They’re basically telling you “You’re disposable trash”, and women swoon over it.

Another thought: “The Wanderer” by Dion. Wandering from town to town, Flo on his left, Mary on his right, hugging and squeezing, they don’t even know his name! Shocking, I know.

Apple Scruffs by George Harrison is about Beatles groupies who would (harmlessly) stalk the band in and around London long after they had stopped giving public performances.

The Wanderer is about the lead character and what a sad loser he is, according to Dion, who wrote it. He’s all bravado but has no one except girls he treats like notches on his belt.
