Songs about groupies

About half of 200 Motels.
How about Ricky Nelson’s “Traveling Man”?

I’ve always thought that song was written from the viewpoint of a sailor, although it could be about an entertainer.

There’s the song, “Bebe Buell,” about one of the most famous groupies of all. Apparently Buell insists we refer to her as a “muse,” not a groupie. She certainly a-mused a whole lotta rock stars.

I’m just reading “Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History Of Punk”, and Bebe Buell and her stint in the New York and extended Punk scene is featured prominently. She also had a turbulent affair with Elvis Costello, and that reminded me of his song “Man Called Uncle” which is about their affair. The “uncle” is Costello himself, that’s what she used to call him.

Pamela Des Barres put together a group of groupies called the GTOs. They made one album, which included Miss Pamela’s First Conversation With the Plaster Casters of Chicago and I’m in Love with the Ooo-Ooo Man (Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf) among others.

So not only do we have songs about groupies, and songs by groupies, but we also have songs by groupies about other groupies.

I get to be the first to post “Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)” by the Mamas & the Papas?!?
