NB: that’s really a lullaby; the Royal Guardsmen leave out the final verse.
And so my baby bundle I have spun a tale for you
You must learn there’s nothing in this world that you can’t do
Do not be discouraged by circumstance and size
Remember Evermore and set your sights upon the skies
Why not? The song was specifically written for the movie ‘Top Gun’.
Oh, if you mean the ‘Danger’ part, that’s fine. I tried to keep my OP positive, but if y’all want to post songs about bad stuff (of which there are a few posts already) that’s good too. It’s all cathartic to me
It’s about record company big shot Seymour Stein flying to Scotland to meet the band to see if he wanted to sign them.
“It’s a good day for flying.”
I swear I read somewhere that the band thought the name “Seymour Stein” sounded a lot like “see more skies” so that’s why they decided to go with a flying motif for the song, but that was ages ago. I like to think that the closing lines are “See more skies” repeated not “Seymour Stein.” Make of it what you will.
I ran through the terminal building
Down to fly-by-night airline
The man said I could ride the wing
And I said that was fine
He said, “I’ll confirm your reservation
And put the plane on hold”
He comes back and says, “Sorry
But that wing space just been sold”
-The Great Airplane Strike / Paul Revere & The Raiders
I think I read it in a Led Zeppelin book (Hammer Of The Gods). I don’t know if they had a general fear of flying or if I’m misremembering what I’m reading now, where their plane depressurized at 8000 feet.
“He [Bonham] finds it’s time to quickly visit the bathroom,” Plant said. “And as he opened the door, his hat blew off and was sucked down the toilet. There was this great sort of whoosh. The guys that were back down on the airstrip had forgotten to rescrew the chute where the toilets were emptied, so there was a tank underneath the bathroom and they forgot to put the cap back on. There was absolutely no pressure.”
Hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She’s comin’ in, 12:30 flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
British Heavy Rock band Saxon did 747 (Strangers in the Night) and Mike “TubularBells” Oldfield did 5MilesOut but both are about civilian aircraft in danger.
Motörhead did Bomber and IronMaiden did AcesHigh which both celebrate WW2 aerial combat.
I know you’re nervous about flying so I won’t mention “Air Crash Museum” by The Dead Milkmen. It’s about a farmer being excited that all these famous people’s planes crashed in their field and now they can start a museum.
A big ol’ jet liner Had dropped from out of the sky Well I was so darn happy that I couldn’t believe my eyes
We’re gonna stuff 'em Put 'em on display 'Tween Patsy Cline and Buddy Holly
Not the best song for someone who is nervous about flying. About an hour ago I listened to Ironic by Ananis Morrisette.
A man was afraid to fly. He waited his whole life to take a flight. “and as the plane crashed down he thought, ‘well, isn’t this nice’”.
