Not bad. Sorry you never got to see the real thing.
Carly Simon - You’re So Vain
Well I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun"
Jet Airliner - Steve Miller Band
Just a song before I go - Graham Nash with Stills and Crosby
ETA: If backstories are extra credit, Nash has said he and a friend were staying with another guy who was a drug dealer, who bet him $500 “You’re a big shot song writer, I bet you can’t write a song just before you go.”
Good one. A bit of “You’re So Vain” trivia: Mick Jagger sings backup vocals (I think most dopers already know that, but if you didn’t, go listen to the song- now that you know, you’ll hear his voice in the background clear as day).
Which is kind of funny, since for years he was one of the prime candidates for being the subject of the song.
Skyliner - Charlie Barnet :-
Flyers Direct - The Fearless Flyers
(The Fearless Flyers made an album where all the tracks were named after various
national aerobatic demonstration teams , namely : Blue Angels, Red Arrows,
Patrouille De France, Frecce Tricolori, Snowbirds and Thunderbirds.)
That song is absolutely about Jagger. The clues are all there. I can hear Carly saying, “…and wouldn’t it be fun if you sang backup.”
I’ve seen The Stones five times in three different states.
A Germán with an accent, well spotted. Oh, man, the trousers…
I only spotted it now . I’m still slim enough to fit both of my legs in one leg of those bell bottoms.
Maybe so, but then was Jagger in on the joke, or was she having a laugh at his expense then?
I think Jagger is intelligent and self-reflective enough that he knew that the song might be about him, at least about a guy like him.
I think I see what you did there…
You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
Apparently Simon has come out and admitted part of the song is about Warren Beatty, but not all of it. She’s still keeping mum on who else it’s about.
I believe he was in on it. Think about the lyrics. I have to leave for a bit, but when I come back I will give you a “glimmer.”
Good one!
Back in the U.S.S.R. - The Beatles
Flew in from Miami Beach B.O.A.C.
Didn’t get to bed last night
On the way the paperback was on my knee
Man, I had a dreadful flight
(BOAC - British Overseas Air Corporation - went on to be known as British Airways which would have been a little tougher for Paul)

Good one!
I can honestly admit that any snark or irony in that post was unintentional. But now I see it too.
Night In The City - ELO
“Standing at the airport, looking down the strip
She was drying her eyes, she was biting her lip
747 just left from gate 11
And there’s no turning ‘round
‘cause it’s just leaving the ground
And getting higher (higher)
Pretty sure that is “paper bag” (as in barf bag), not “paperback”.
Angels wings are icing over
McDonnell-Douglas olive drab
They bear the names of our sweethearts
And the captain smiles, as we crash
-Camper van Beethoven “Sweethearts”
