Post 7…
Oops - missed it. Sorry…
A lot of songs are addressed directly to the muse. That doesn’t make them about writing songs.
“These Words” by Natasha Bedingfield
Sly & the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music” and Archie Bell & the Drells’ “Tighten Up” both use the concept of introducing the instruments one by one to sort of build the song. I think these fit the category.
Someday (A Good Song) by Redbone
“Songwriter” by the Good Rats
Moody Blues, “Song That Never Ends” –
I’m gonna sing my song
I’ll sing it all day long
The song that never ends…
Guy Clark “Some Days You Write the Song”. Some days the song writes you.
Here’s a song I had almost forgotten about, but youtube suggested for me today:
Faith Marie - Toxic Thoughts
I start this off staring at a blank page
An open office document
A blinking cursor Passing days
Without a single word
Some say it’s absurd
Like I float along a stream of words unsaid
Choosing not to cast my net
But I spend so long questioning myself
If this isn’t right Then does that mean I failed?
Will my melodies ever live up?
Will my metaphors be profound enough?
Will I ever outdo myself?
The ceiling gets higher and higher
It’s harder and harder to shatter
Getting in Tune - The Who
I’m singing this note 'cause it fits in well
With the chords I’m playing
I can’t pretend there’s any meaning here
Or in the things I’m saying
But I’m in tune
Right in tune
I’m in tune
And I’m gonna tune
Right in on you
Right in on you
Right in on you
Lonesome L.A. Cowboy - New Riders of the Purple Sage
I been smokin’ dope, snortin’ coke,
Tryin’ to write a song
Forgettin’ everything I know
‘Til the next line comes along
Manilow did, however, did write “A Linda Song” and co-write (with Marty Panzer} “This One’s For You”
