Romantics, “What I Like About You” I think I’ve heard this one in about half a dozen ad campaigns over the years, and now it’s making the rounds once again. For the love of God I don’t want to be hearing this in the nursing home 40 years from now…
Chambers Brothers, “Time Has Come Today” This one belongs in the “unintentionally ironic” category, as I’ve invariably heard it to sell various capitalist/ consumerist things, even though it isn’t quite the 60’s protest song I thought it was.
“This is our country” by John Mellencamp. Trite nonsense-- heard it, or at least tried to avoid it used in the Chevy commercials what seems like one million times during the baseball playoffs last fall.
“Walking On Sunshine” seems to be used in a different campaign every year. Right now, “Mah Na Mah Na” is simultaneously being used for two different advertisers (Big Lots and Saturn).
Now’s as good a time as any to ask this: is that really that song’s title? I know that’s what it’s listed as on the Muppets soundtrack album, but I’ve wondered for some time now if that’s really it.
Not TV ads, exactly, but why is it whenever a radio station plans to have a contest where they give away cash, they HAVE to play Pink Floyd’s Money? Is it a rule?
