Songs that are just plain wrong

Sonny & Cher - I’ve Got You, Babe.
He’s dead, and she’s gotten too many operations.

Have you listened to the other words to Only the Good Die Young?

The song is just a guy trying to get laid. That’s all. Seeing how the song does not indicate that this argument was persuasive, then I guess one could argue that it is just plain wrong.

"In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather’s fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy’s rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy’s poor just do what you feel"

Young Girl - Gary Puckett & The Union Gap.

I would think that Sting’s Every Breath You Take would be a good example of this. I always chuckle to myself and wish people good luck when they talk about how “romantic” this song is.

Stalking…it really turns me on. :smack:

If you’re talking about songs that are factually wrong, there’s U2’s song “Pride in the Name of Love”. This lyric refers to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination:

Early morning April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky

Incorrect. King was killed in the afternoon.

It’s called Young Girl, and it’s by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

I’ve always thought I would hate to be whoever Gary Puckett is supposed to be when he sings his hits.

ALso a wrong song:

Where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me

SO many things wrong with that. The first two that spring to mind are that it is a dead teenager song, and “No, the Lord didn’t take your baby away from you. You killed her with your reckless driving habits. Don’t be trying to lay that rap on God.”

We built this city - Starship,

Apart from being crap, when did rock’n’roll build anything, its supposed to be about living fo rhte moment, tearing apart hotel rooms, parking Rolls Royces in swimming pools, anything except build.

Having my baby - Paul Anka, really I don’t want to know, just piss off and die!

Yup. Just like *Angel Eyes.

Pardon me, but I gotta run.
The fact’s uncommonly clear.
Gotta find out who’s now number one,
And why my Angel Eyes ain’t here.*

When it’s Frank, it’s creepy in a mob-related kind of way.

When it’s Ella, you just know you’ve got a Miss Otis Regrets moment in the offing.

Not factually wrong, but just gawdawful:

If I was a sculptor, but then, no…

No eraser on that pencil, Sir Elton??

Ah, thanks.

Yes, the morality of that song is definitely wrong.

Not necessarily.

Correction: They are ignoring your words in their entirety.

Yes! Ready or not! Twist his arm until he does what you want him to, then you can feel secure.

Not actually wrong, but just gawdawful:

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no…

No eraser on that pencil, Sir Elton??

D’oh! that’sa double post, not an edit!!

:smack:

How about Uncle Cracker and his “Follow Me” song? It’s about a guy that’s having an affair with a married woman but he puts 100% of the blame on her and if she questions the relationship in any way he’ll dump her…yet everyone I know tells me how romantic that song is. Until I ruin it for them by making them pay attention to the lyrics.

Or Happy Together by The Turtles

I think that All You Need is Love is plain wrong.

I needs loads of other stuff - sunscreen, aftershave, beer, the list is endless actually.

As far as I can tell, Uncle Kracker has declined to explain the song, but there is also a theory that it’s about drug use, written from the veiwpoint of the drugs she’s addicted to. Not that that makes it any less wrong, just saying is all.
I always get a chuckle out of the “how romatic” comments for Extreme’s “More Then Words”. It’s not romatic, the song’s character is just trying to get laid.

Peace - DESK

“With all the charms of a woman
You’ve kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You’re old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth”

He is trying to do the right thing although at the end he hopes she will leave before he becomes overwhelmed by something he knows is wrong.

The lyric goes:

“Never been a sinner
I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus”

The implication being that, now that his friend is Jesus, he’s been redeemed, with his past sins washed away (as if they never occured).

That’s how I always took it, at least.
