Songs that could be made into movies

I immediately thought of “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts”, too, but decided there wasn’t much point: the whole story is really right there in the song, and there’s not much to add.

On the other hand, “Tangled Up in Blue” has just enough fragments to make something interesting, particularly as the last verse, with it’s reflections on a moment in time of “revolution in the air”, gets into more than just a boy-meets-girl-in-a-stripjoint story.

Heard two in the car this morning on the way to work that I think could be interesting:

Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) - The Hollies
Gimme Three Steps - Lynard Skynard

Either could probably work as porn, too.

Big Tobacco (aka Joe Pernice): “Bum Leg”. Down-on-his luck guy looking for the emerald he hid somewhere a long time ago, so he can beat the rap he’s got for beating up another down-and-outer and go to Paradise–or at least Florida.

Off the top of my head, I think both “Wonderboy” and “The Best Song in the World” by Tenacious D could be made into movies. Come on JB and KG! The Pick of Destiny was a disappointment, give it another go!

They made an entire TV series about that.

“Tangled Up in Blue”–Bob Dylan
“Winona’s Big Brown Beaver”–Primus

Nah… That would be WAY too long.

“1952 Vincent Black Lightning” by Richard Thompson (AND the Del McCoury Band, whose version is much more popular and is awesome)

How about “Halley Came to Jackson” by Mary Chapin Carpenter

The Mariner’s Revenge Song - The Decemberists

Already has the entire plot in the song, and the whole story last fifteen-some years so there’s plenty of room to add in some filler.

You could also turn their entire Hazards of Love album into a movie too.

How about some more Bob Dylan - Black Diamond Bay? I picture Bogie and Bacall when I hear it.

Springsteen’s Jungle Land has enoyed many screenings in my head.

In fact, I’d nominate Springsteen’s entire library for this thread. Dylan’s too, probably.

Fire on the Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band

The Ballad of Curtis Loew - Lynyrd Skynyrd

“Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot

Rio, by Duran Duran

OK, how about Hotel California by the Eagles?

It would be an excellent movie - especially if you could keep that cast!

this one would be a movie very loosely based on the briefest and sketchiest of lyrics–just a character-driven wisp of a plot, but fantastic nonetheless: amovie of John Cale’s (.Fear is a Man’s Best Friend).

‘life and death/are things you just do when you’re bored’(-j.cale)—great tag line for the trailer

Sympathy for the Devil

One of those prestige biopics that Oscar voters love so much. It’d be like **Gandhi **or Nixon. But, you know, like in between those two.
