Good call, Labdad, lots of Earle’s stuff will do that to ya (Nothing but a child for example).
From the “Dead Man Walking” soundtrack, Springsteen’s title track has the chill effect on me.
- Sister I won’t ask for forgiveness,
my sins are all I have*
Also someone mentioned “Lightning Crashes”. That one does it to me for some personal reasons. It was the first song I heard after my Grandma died. What was weird was that after the decision was made to let her go, I went downstairs to the hospital lobby to call my sister. Some people were on the elevator taking their brand new baby home. Then I get in the car and that song is on. Thought I was in some tearjerking Lifetime movie and could hear the soundtrack for a minute.
Guess I should read the whole thread first. Almost anything by Eva Cassidy is chill-inducing, both because of her voice and the knowledge of her untimely death. Actually someone on this board introduced me to her work (maybe even you, Spritle). Since then, I’ve picked up most of her stuff.
Also, “Scared” by The Tragically Hip (just came on MM jukebox).
Jeez, I didn’t know I was so emotional
I believe that’s Suzanne Vega of “Luka” fame
Mrs. Spritle and I both get goose-bumps when we hear the Star Spangled Banner. It doesnt’ really matter who sings it and in what style. Around the “Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave” line, we’re both all a-shiver. Gosh, I didn’t know I was so patriotic.
As an aside, being a “Baltimoron Os fan” (let’s hear it for dem Os) I have often been troubled by the fans singing the “Oh” really loud, emphasizing the Os. Sure it’s in fun, and I don’t find it unpatriotic or anything, I just don’t particularly like it.
jk1245, while I won’t assign any acclaim to myself for introducing Eva to you, I will mention that I have made it my life’s mission to introduce everyone to her amazing talents. (fighting ignorance and all) I’m so glad you’ve given her a listen. What a tragic loss for the music world. On a lighter note, however (NPI), she is from the town where I live and her parents still live there (a few streets away from me). They are wonderful people, and let any fan into their back yard to see some of her artwork/sculptures. If you are ever in the DC area…
