Songs that knocked your socks off

Yeah,I checked out some of her other stuff.I like the title track a bunch.

'Nantes ’ by Beirut

The album version (recorded in a studio, not a stairwell) is even better.

I was recently blown away by the song “The Way It Is” by Nicole Atkins, which was recommended to me…uh…right here

Thanks for the link!

I know it’s at least several years old (I’m behind the times), but I listen to “Bittersweet Symphony” from The Verve at least once a day.

Oopsy.
I found a different version of Fratres. Higher fidelity than computer speakers is probably needed for this, as the beginning on the piece is so quiet.

Long Winters’ Cinnamon on Last.fm

Amy LaVere on YouTube. Cute girls who play the bass fiddle is a fetish I didn’t know I had.

Me?

I just got a copy of Green Day’s American Idiot.

Holiday kicks seven different flavors of ass.

I’ve been kind of crazily impressed by Interpol’s ‘‘Evil’’ since I first heard the song a few days ago. The singer has such a unique voice and the effect of that combined with the freaky subject matter of the song is awesomely creepy.

And I was watching TV over at my Mother-in-Law’s the other day, and LeAnn Rimes’ ‘‘Nothin’ Better To Do’’ music video came on. Now, I haven’t seen a photograph of that girl since she was 13 years old – I just about fell out of my chair. Herself and the choreography in that video is smokin’ hot. . I’ve always thought she was a great singer, but she just radiates power and confidence in that song, it’s very sexy.

Completely agreed. That whole album rocks my face off – when you listen to it from start to finish, it’s like some kind of crazy historical epic face-rocking experience.

Olives, good song. I also took a look at LeAnn Rimes’ “Amazing Grace” on that same page, and it was a very, very good performance. That girl can SING!

“Dreams” by the Rippingtons

At about the same age I found a tape of the Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane single. I played it incessantly for days and days. I still absolutely love both songs.

Just today, Eva Cassidy doing Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time

Sylvie Lewis

I remember when I first hear “You Oughtta Know” by Alanis Morisette and thought, “Wow, that is one angry chick.” I was blown away by the energy and what seemed like honest, raw emotion.

For some unknown reason, we only recently discovered Eagles of Death Metal, but I am absolutely and in all other ways loving everything by them at the moment. The drummer is Josh Homme from Queens of the Stoneage.

I Only Want You on YouTube. You cannot listen without wiggling in your seat and tapping your feet. Or at least, I can’t.

http: //youtube.com/watch?v=Gz_BVyYgEZo = Speaking in Tongues on YouTube. Note - I broke the link as I don’t think it’s NSFW, exactly, but it does have very scantily clad women gyrating around, so be warned.

Teruu no Uta, the theme song from Goro Miyazaki’s movie Gedo Senki (Tales of Earthsea) .

I saw the movie in Japan (my Japanese is basic at best), and it floored me. Only later did I actually see a translation.

(The music video version, with orchestral backing, is here.)

Thanks for all the responses so far,I am really enjoying this thread.

Eva Cassidy,Sylvie Lewis, Dragonforce,Mary Black and especially Nicole Atkins are all wonderful and names I never heard before.

Even the names I have heard like 10,000 Maniacs, Green Day and Johnny Cash gave me new appreciation for them(though I already had it for Cash).

Keep ‘em comin’!

All Summer Long and Amen (both are Kid Rock) kind of blew me away - in fact I’m listening to All Summer Long right now. The only other band that’s blown me away really lately is Velvet Revolver - but I’m a real metal head…

Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps was the last musical piece to make me literally drop my jaw in awe.

Of current music, the latest for me to stand out has been Agua de Annique’s Trail of Grief. Sound quality on the video isn’t ideal, the song can also be heard on ADA’s MySpace page.
