Where do you go to my lovely by Peter Sarstedt mentions Zizi Jeanmaire, The Aga Khan, Belmond.
The Dutch symphonic rock band Kayak did a song called Anne about Anne Boleyn.
Did someone mention Killer queen by Queen (Krushov and Kennedy, Marie Antoinette)? And Russians by Sting (Reagan, Oppenheimer, Krushov)?
Not specifically mentioned, but clearly about Kennedy/Oswald is Family snapshot by Peter Gabriel.
And wrt the hijack: Talk Talk had a hit with Talk Talk.
The Bloodhoung Gang’s “The Bad Touch” mentions Prince, Gene Siskel, Roger Ebert, and Lyle Lovett.
So long Frank Lloyd Wright by Simon and Garfunkel.
Paul Simon also did a song about Rene Margritte.
Al Stewart mentioned (Humphrey) Bogart in Year of the cat.
Suzanne Vega of course referred to Marlene Dietrich in Marlene on the wall, amd also did a song (the title escapes me) in whuch she refers to Bacall.
what? Napoleon is not in the list yet (ABBA-Waterloo).
BoneyM did songs about Rasputin and [Ma Baker**.
Al Stewart mentioned Amy Johnson in his song Flying Sorcery.
And then there is of course Shakespeare in love, and the theme song from Dad’s Army: who do you think you are kidding mister Hitler.
I’m afraid that you’re incorrect. The song is actually about me.
Some others:
Iron Maiden Ghengis Khan - Ghengis Khan
Iron Maiden Alexander The Great - Alexander The Great, Philip of Macedon, and King Darius III
Iron Maiden Holy Smoke - Jimmy and Tammy Faye Baker
“Jimmy Reptile and all his friends”
“'Til the TV Queen gets her make-up clean”
LL Cool J Mama Said Knock You Out - Muhammed Ali
“Just like Muhammed Ali they called me Cassius”
Rage Against The Machine Wake Up - J Edgar Hoover, Martin Luther King, Flip Wilson, Muhammed Ali (Cassius Clay), Malcolm X
And the weirdest one:
Helmet Turned Out - Downtown Julie Brown
Bare Naked Ladies’ “One Week” mentions:
Aquaman
LeAnn Rimes
Bert Kaempfort
Harrison Ford
Sting
Kurassawa
Sailor Moon
In Sheryl Crow’s If it makes you Happy she mentions Marilyn and Benny Goodman if I remember correctly, in Maybe Angels she mentions Elvis, Jesus, John Lennon and Cobain.
“Banditos” by The Refreshments mentions Jean-Luc Picard.
“A New Hope” by Blink 182 mentions Leia, Han, and Lando.
“Last Girl on Earth” by Skycycle also mentions Han.
In Bowling For Soup’s “Punk Rock 101” they mention Fat Mike, the lead singer and bass player from NOFX
from good charlotte’s “riot girl”

**
And Hare Krishna.
Also by the Beatles, “A Day in the Life,” the lines “he blew his mind out in a car” etc, refers to Tara Browne, a friend of the Beatles. Obviously, “the Ballad of John and Yoko” is about John and Yoko.
“Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” was based allegedly on a picture drawn by Sean (or Julian?) Lennon, that was of a classmate, Lucy.
“Revolution” has the line “if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao…”
In “Honey, Don’t,” Ringo asks George “Rock on, George, one time for me.”
Thought of a couple more. Paul McCartney has a song on his solo album McCartney about his wife called “The Lovely Linda.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers mention Iggy Pop on their song “Coffee Shop,” and Shao Lin on “Easily.” Respectively, “we can dance like Iggy Pop,” and “Shao Lin shaking for the sake of his soul.”
Pink Floyd has a couple that I don’t think have been mentioned yet.
“Pigs” mentions Mary Whitehouse, a censorship advocate in Britain.
“Emily” in see Emily play was a real person. I forget her first name. She was a rich girl who Syd Barrett (who wrote the song) thought was a poser, thus the lines “she’s often inclined to borrow somebody’s dreams til tomorrow.”
“Poles Apart” is considered to be David Gilmour’s tribute to Syd Barrett, as is, debatably, much of the Wall, especially “Nobody Home.”
On a solo album “Amused to Death,” Roger Waters refers to Bill Hubbard, a dead soldier from WW2 that the album is dedicated to. The album later lists several Chinese historical figures, and Andrew Lloyd Weber. “Lloyd Weber’s awful stuff runs for years and years and Years.”
The Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds picture was drawn by Julian. Sean wasn’t born until 1975.
:smack: Thanks. Obviously Sean wouldn’t have been able to draw it, what with his not existing yet and all . I need some caffeine.
Nirvana’s Pennyroyal Tea mentions “a Leonard Cohen afterworld”.
Tori Amos mentions the band Nine Inch Nails on at least 2 occasions. In Precious Things, she sings about “girls with their nine inch nails”. In Caught a Lite Sneeze she has the line “built my own pretty hate machine”, Pretty Hate Machine being the title of a Nine Inch Nails album.
The Flaming Lips have a song called You Jack White (For the Fiber-Optic Jesus That You Gave Me) about, of course, Mr White Stripes. And Jesus, I guess.
