She does sing, though – that’s her performing the title song. To my mind, easily the worst Bond theme ever.
Heh. I was born in the early 80s (actually, I was born the year after “Scarface” was released). And yet somehow I still have a thing for that kind of music. So much for those crazy kids and their newfangled music.
Perhaps your Mom listened to it when you were in utero?
Khia’s raunchy sex rap “My Neck, My Back” in the middle of The Door in the Floor as a crying Jeff Bridges sings along.
I liked the soundtrack to LadyHawke! But, I will admit that it is impossible to ignore, though, so if you don’t like it, you’ll hate it.
I also liked the soundtrack to A Knight’s Tale, which was meant to inflect the kind of feeling in the modern audience that modern music invoked in the past. Thus the raucous “We Will Rock You” at the joust, and Bowie’s modern, edgy “Golden Years” at the banquet, where all the young, rich and hip came to see and be seen.
I thought the “Tiny Dancer” scene in Almost Famous was pretty damn cheesy. Why that song, of all songs? Why not something more like the music the band played? Why not hear their OWN song playing on the radio, a symbol of their growing success that could bring them together? WHY TINY DANCER?
Nope, I’m with the OP. The song is meh…harmless 50’s pop, and the first time it’s sung is marginally acceptable. But writing a reprise into the script, and requiring that Doris Day *shout *it, was sadistic and a grating interruption to an otherwise good movie.
Cause the song is kinda about a groupie?
Vangelis’ music in Chariots of Fire. I don’t mind so much the kind of iconic music when they run on the beach. But at other points in the movie, i.e. the race in the courtyard, the new agey, synth sound just does not mesh well with the early 1900’s sensibilities of the movie.
No, no, I hear you - almost Loveboat-theme-ey. *“Marina…Aqua-Marina”
*. Certainly shite compared to the excellent Thunderbirds theme. Or even the Stingray opener, with the horn section.
Great choice, and along this line, I hated the Batman sequence with The Joker and his minions getting into mischief to a Prince song, complete with characters bringing a boom box into the scene. Every time I see a character walk into frame with a boom box, I die a little inside.*
I have a lot of problems with that movie anyway, but I might be more forgiving if that scene wasn’t so painful.
*except in Do the Right Thing. That was OK.
Ooo, Madonna! How about At Close Range? It seemed like the same four notes from “Live to Tell” were in the background of every scene.
Oooohhhh yeah, it’s in every episode and once my dad pointed it out it annoyed me every time.
The boom box in DTRT is different, as it was crucial to the plot in and of itself.
What about Say Anything?
A Knight’s Tale wasn’t ruined anymore by its score than a concoction of hemlock would be ruined by adding a touch too much paprika.
However , the sappy song (Show Me Your World?) from Aladdin was painful to endure in an otherwise pretty fun movie.
“Bella Notte” in Lady and the Tramp. It’s not that bad, but it’s WAY overused; it pops up a half dozen times in that movie!
