Songs that represent the current political environment

I guess I conflated him with Alvin and the Chipmunks, which is not a mistake to make if you are booking a childs birthday party

I didn’t know that. But that definitely doesn’t make it less appropriate as a representation of the current American political situation :frowning:

Great pick. When I was younger that song was a banger. Not that it’s any less of one now, but it’s less fun to sing along with.

The first song that springs to mind is this lovely from Karl Wallinger (World Party):

“Save me, save me from tomorrow
I don’t want to sail with this ship of fools, no no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don’t want to sail with this ship of fools, no no (I want to run and hide)”

Tom Morello’s mention makes me think of Rage Against the Machine’s Bulls On Parade, which features a verse that still kinda rings true:

*Gestures towards punk music collection….*

“November’s Big Mistake” by 88 Fingers Louie comes to mind though.

Another just came up on my playlist, with some Canadian elements:

Crusade” - The Anti-Queens ft. Tracy A (Cross dog)

Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” as covered by Bryan Ferry. Apocalyptic, but also kind of ridiculous:

I just had a conversation with a dear friend about Arlo and his father Woody Guthrie, and thought about what was my favorite Woody song. And came up with “Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos)”, which I learned from the Byrds version I still like best. No song from 1948 could be more relevant to our times than this.

Chicago’s Lowdown

Oh, my
Life has passed me by
The country I was brought up in
Fell apart and died.
