No, it’s not. We have covered that quite extensively on this board.
BTW, “Girl Talk” was composed by Neal Hefti, who did a lot of work for the Count Basie Orchestra. Bobby Troup just did the lyrics. He was better known at the lyricist for “Lemon Twist” and the immortal “Route 66.”
And DO click F.U. Shakespeare’s link to the Troup video. Jaw-dropping male chauvinist piggery! From the women’s hair and hemlines, I figure it was made in '67 or '68. Here’s a copy of the link.
Yes, thanks, I forgot it was Hefti who wrote the music.
That link is a guilty pleasure of mine - be warned!
Hefti also composed the theme for the Batman television series.
“Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman…”
Wow - I didn’t know he could write lyrics too!
“Playground In My Mind” had a creepy vibe, especially with the kid’s chorus.
I could just blow this thing up and throw out, “All Coons Look Alike To Me” by Ernest Hogan. You won’t be hearing that on the radio any time…
Gotta love the ending, when five or six women drag Troup into a changing cubicle the size of a phone booth.
Okay…NOW what?
Around the same time, Bram Tchaikovsky released this tune, which is probably the only song ever to make the Top 40 that’s about an inflatable sex doll.
I heard this a few years ago on the overhead music while walking at the mall. :DLOL!
I was looking for this response. You’re not allowed to portray characters in a bad light? Pointless editing messes with the story and characterization. Bad people say and do bad things. Edit that out of books and movies too, and things are gonna get mighty boring.
Thirteen, in the hit live album Get Yer Ya-yas Out! (released 1970).
What about Dickie Lee’s Patches: Rich guy falls for poor girl from wrong side of town, they plan to get married, his parents won’t let them, so she commits suicide and he plans to do the same.
I hear a neighbor telling my father -
He says a girl name of Patches was found
Floating face down in that dirty old river
That flows by the coal yards in old Shantytown.
Patches! Oh what can I do?
I swear I’ll always love you.
It may not be right,
But I’ll join you tonight.
Patches, I’m coming to you.
Or Fancy, the song about the 18-year-old hooker who is very successful at it.
I wanted it to be the women dragging him to the door and throwing him out in the street: “Geddoutta here, ya pervert!”
Nah, if Carrie Underwood decided to remake it, it would go to #1. Bonus points if she can get Reba to sing a powerful backup during the chorus (And naturally, be the mother in the video). The only issue is that Reba’s version still gets so much airplay, I doubt this could ever happen.
And she is not a hooker- She is a Courtesan. My Momma said it, so I believe it.
Whose mother encourages her to get into the career.
Is this entire thread a whoosh, or is this just the whitest board in the world?
wasn’t this in a weird al parody song "those were the good old days " ? which made fun all of the 50s/60s nostalgia songs that were out at the time ?
But no one mentions "don’t stand so close to me ? " I thought it was just about someone who was antisocial until I read the lyrics …
